ramuzovi.dll

Unread postby jlking69 » December 9th, 2009, 1:24 am

My kids picked up some viruses/spyware/malware/etc. on the computer.

I ran various programs to get rid of the problem (Ad Aware, Avira, SpyBot, CCleaner, and AVG), I think AVG helped the most (it is running better). However, now when I boot my computer, I get the following error message:

Error loading c:\windows\system32\ramuzovi.dll
The specified module could not be found.

I then tried Malwarebytes Anti Malware, but the problem persists. I don't think the system is totally clean.

Below is the HijackThis log file.

THANKS in advance for any help.

Hello and welcome to Malware Removal Forums

My handle is shinybeast and I will be assisting you in the removal of malware your computer may have.

Please follow these guidelines as we work to clean your computer.
  • Read through the instructions before you perform them and if you have questions please ask before you perform them. Please do not guess. I will be happy to clarify or explain.
  • Perform all instructions in the order given.
  • Stick with the process until I give you an "all clean." If the symptoms are gone, it does not necessarily mean your computer is safe and secure.
  • The instructions assume you are using an account with administrator privileges.
  • Do not run any other tools to remove malware while we are working.
  • Post all responses in a reply to this topic - Please do not start a new topic.
  • If your security software throws up warnings about some of these tools, please allow these tools to run, they are safe.
  • If you have not done so, please take time to read the Malware Removal Forum Guidelines and Rules where the conditions for receiving help at this forum are explained.

NOTE: I am in training here at Malware Removal University.
I must get my replies to you approved by a malware expert which means it could take slightly longer to get back to you.
Your patience is appreciated. :)

Installed Program List

It would be helpful to see a list of programs installed on your computer.

  • Please start Hijackthis
  • Click the Open the Misc Tools section button
  • Click the Open Uninstall Manager... under System Tools

You will see a list of programs installed on your computer.
Please click the Save List... button and specify where you would like to save the list.
Once you click Save, the list will open in Notepad. Simply copy and paste the entire contents of Notepad in your next post.

Hello jlking69,

Multiple Anti-virus

I notice that you have two anti-virus programs installed. Having more than one anti-virus program can slow the system and make it unstable and provides no additional security. I need you to uninstall one of them.

If you have paid for Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security 14, then I suggest that you uninstall AVG Free 9.0.

While you are there, please uninstall Ad-aware. It is a decent program but not very effective against current threats and may interfere with the tools we use.

Click Start, click Run...
Type appwiz.cpl and press Enter to open Add or Remove Programs
For each of the programs listed below, highlight them in the list and click Remove

Ad-Aware
AVG 9.0 OR Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security 14

Once finished, close Add or Remove Programs window

Scan with OTL

Click here to download OTL by OldTimer and save it to your Desktop
  • Close all other open windows, then double-click OTL.exe to start OTL
  • Under Output, ensure that Minimal Output is selected
  • Under the Standard Registry box change it to All
  • Copy the text in the code box below and paste it into the Custom Scans/Fixes box (under the cyan line at the bottom of the window)
    Code: Select all
    netsvcs
    %SYSTEMDRIVE%\*.exe
    /md5start
    eventlog.dll
    scecli.dll
    netlogon.dll
    cngaudit.dll
    sceclt.dll
    ntelogon.dll
    logevent.dll
    iaStor.sys
    nvstor.sys
    atapi.sys
    IdeChnDr.sys
    viasraid.sys
    AGP440.sys
    vaxscsi.sys
    nvatabus.sys
    viamraid.sys
    nvata.sys
    nvgts.sys
    iastorv.sys
    ViPrt.sys
    eNetHook.dll
    ahcix86.sys
    KR10N.sys
    nvstor32.sys
    userinit.exe
    /md5stop
    %systemroot%\*. /mp /s
    CREATERESTOREPOINT
  • Click Run Scan in upper left of window.
  • When the scan is finished, two logs will open:
    OTL.Txt <-- Will be opened
    Extras.Txt <-- Will be minimized
  • Please post the contents of these two logs in your next reply.

Scan with GMER

Click here to download GMER Rootkit Scanner and save it to your desktop.
  • Double click the randomly named GMER file. If asked to allow gmer driver to load, please consent
  • If it gives you a warning about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run scan...click on NO

    Image
Click the image to enlarge it
  • In the right panel, you will see several boxes that have been checked. Uncheck the following boxes:
    • Sections
    • IAT/EAT
    • Drives/Partition other than Systemdrive (typically C:\)
    • Show All
  • Then click the Scan button and wait for it to finish
  • Once done click on the Save.. button at lower right, and in the File name area, type in "Gmer.txt" (include the quotes) or it will save as a .log file
  • Save it where you can easily find it, such as your desktop, and post it in reply
**Caution**
Rootkit scans often produce false positives. Do NOT take any action on any "<--- ROOKIT" entries

Note: Do not run any programs while Gmer is running.

Shiny Beast:

I uninstalled AVG.
I uninstalled Ad-aware.
I ran OTL, logs are posted below.
I ran GMER, but it crashed and locked up my computer just as it finished (after almost 12 hours) so I did not get a report out of it. The good new is that I looked at the Rootkit results just before it crashed and everything looked OK (granted I'm not an expert, but the files found were related to the Trend Micro PC-illin - there was nothing suspicious). I can re-run GMER if you really need it, but that program seemed unstable (yes, I wasn't running any other programs at the time) and makes me nervous after it twice crashed my computer (I mean really crashed; I had to pull the plug to get it to reboot, it was totally locked up).

On another note: I knew that (as you pointed out in your message) I had too many anti-virus/spyware programs installed. I installed a number of different ones when I was trying to fix this problem myself.

Question 1: what anti-virus/spyware programs do you recommend be installed?

When I bought the computer (from Dell) it came preinstalled with Trend Micro PC-illin. When the trial period ended, I tried to uninstall it and use AVG instead (which I have had good luck with on other computers). However, when I try to uninstall Trend Micro PC-illin, it asks for a password. I don't have a password (it came preinstalled; I never entered a password).

Question 2: Do you know how to get Trend Micro PC-illin uninstalled?

Thanks so much all your help! You guys are life savers!

Joe

Hi jlking69,

Apologies for the delay.

You may want to print these instructions or save them to a notepad/wordpad document on your desktop to have handy as I have you disconnect from the internet for part of this.

This process is a bit involved, so if you have questions, please ask before performing it. The process includes you choosing a new anti-virus program as well.
AVG is a fine choice to re-install if you choose. It appears you still have the installer for it. Just beware the toolbar that it will want to install. I suggest you not allow that part. Another option would be Microsoft Security Essentials.

Choose one and have the installer ready to go on your desktop but do not install it yet.

Then please uninstall Spybot S & D for the time being. Once we are finished feel free to re-install it. It tends to get in the way of the tools we use so best to uninstall it for now.

Uninstall Programs

Click Start, click Run...
Type appwiz.cpl and press Enter to open Add or Remove Programs
For each of the programs listed below, highlight them in the list and click Remove

Spybot - Search & Destroy

NOTE: If you are asked whether to remove all the settings, answer YES.
Once finished, close Add or Remove Programs window.
Then reboot the computer.

After reboot, do the following.

Download Tools

Delete GMER.exe from your desktop.

Please download the following tools and save them to your desktop.

  • Download ERUNT (Emergency Recovery Utility NT) by Lars Hederer from one of the links below and save it to a convenient location
    Link 1 | Link 2
  • Click here to download GMER Rootkit Scanner and save it to your desktop (do not change the name of the file).

Backup Registry With ERUNT

Modifying the Windows Registry can occasionally create problems, so it is imperative we back it up first.

  • Double-click the file erunt-setup.exe that you downloaded to start the install
  • After the language selection, click Next three times to choose the default location, folder name and start menu folder.
  • You may choose to uncheck the desktop icons at the Select Additional Options window.
  • IMPORTANT: After clicking Install, you will get a popup asking if you want to run ERUNT at each startup. Click No (Once we are finished, you may choose to enable this option).
  • Keep the option to run ERUNT checked and click Finish
  • Click OK at the Welcome dialog box
  • Ensure the System Registry and Current User Registry boxes are checked and click OK to backup the registry to the default location and filename. You will be asked if you want to create the folder, click Yes
  • A window should appear that says "Registry backup is complete!." Click OK in that window.

NOTE: If the "registry optimization tool" NTREGOPT is installed with ERUNT, do NOT, for any reason, run NTREGOPT.

IMPORTANT: If you do not complete ERUNT backup successfully, do not continue further and post back to let me know.

Create and Run a Batch File

Please open Notepad. (Start > Run..., type "notepad" and click OK)
Click Format in the menu bar and ensure Word Wrap is not checked.
Then, copy the entire contents of the code box below and paste it into Notepad.

Code: Select all
@echo off
sc stop PcCtlCom
sc stop Tmntsrv
sc stop tmproxy
sc stop TmPfw
sc config PcCtlCom start= disabled
sc config Tmntsrv start= disabled
sc config tmproxy start= disabled
sc config TmPfw start= disabled
sc delete PcCtlCom
sc delete Tmntsrv
sc delete tmproxy
sc delete TmPfw
del %0

Then click File and Save As...
Save the file to your Desktop as "runme.bat" (You must include the quotes)
Locate runme.bat on your Desktop and double-click it to execute the batch file

Disconnect your computer from the internet temporarily as you now should have no anti-virus protection.

OTL

  • Save any work and close all running programs.
  • Double-click OTL.exe to start the program
  • Copy all of the text in the code box below and paste it in the white area under Custom Scans/Fixes (under the cyan line at the bottom of the window)
    Code: Select all

  • Close all running programs except for OTL, including all browser windows.
  • Then click Run Fix at the top of the window.
  • Once done, OTL will require a reboot. Please allow it.
  • After reboot, the log should open. Please save the log and post it in your next reply.

After the reboot, let's give GMER one more shot.

Scan with GMER

Reconnect to the internet and install an Anti-virus.

Run the installer for the anti-virus of your choice after reconnecting to the internet to install an anti-virus.

After all that is done, please create a new HijackThis log.

In your next reply please include the OTL log, the GMER log, the new HijackThis log and info on how the computer is running. :)
