A major terrorist plot to blow up aircraft midflight between Britain and the U.S. has been disrupted, police said today.
Police made arrests overnight in London after a covert counter-terrorist operation lasting several months, police said in a statement. The British Broadcasting Corp. was reporting "about 18" had been arrested...
...Britain's Home Secretary John Reid deemed the alleged plot significant and said it was designed to "bring down a number of aircraft through midflight explosions, causing a considerable loss of life."...
..Britain's national threat level was raised to critical — a warning level that indicates the likelihood of an imminent terrorist attack.
British authorities played this one good! They waited long enough to catch these people. Hopefully they will find the root of the terrorist plot. Now that they have over 20 arrests!
I was hearing about this at work today, ;
as a comment on a program I was watching recently said.... security has to get it right 100% of the time to succeed; the terrorist only has to get it right ONCE to succeed
I have every sympathy and support for those who are tasked with preventing terrorist attacks and I support all the long delays at checkins if it will help towards preventing and foiling another attack
