I will keep trying at Java, thanks for the heads up. Sorry about the forgeting to post the hijackthis log file last time. I disabled script blocking on N. antivirus. I also uninstalled the three programs you requested, and yes I did clear all the quarantine lists you requested, as well as ran killbot to kill those two files you mentioned. As for my new hijackthis log, see below. Thanks

Hi itemple7,

Thank you for providing that information. It makes it easier for us to help you. :)
You have a Vundo infection which we'll take care of, but first Java.

Click Start > Run > type in appwiz.cpl and hit enter. From the list uninstall the following, if present:

J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6

Then...
  • Go here
  • Scroll down to Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 7 and click on the Download button
  • Seelct the "Accept" option for the license agreement
  • Click on Windows Online Installation (typical download size is ~7.1MB), Multi-language and download it to your Desktop. You may need to click on the link once more after accepting the license agreement
  • Open the Java file on your Desktop and follow the instructions until Java has fully been installed.
Once Java has been installed, continue below:

We need to DISABLE Ewido Guard as it may interfere with our fix:
  • Open Ewido
  • On the main screen under Your Computer's security, click on Change state next to Resident shield.
  • It should now change to inactive.
  • Right-click the Ewido Tray Icon and select Exit. Confirm by clicking Yes.
=====

Open HijackThis
- Click the Do a system scan only button
- Check the following entries (below)

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {6437F756-6663-4DAC-BD9D-317B99986815} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {AB423889-DF18-43DE-960F-6F195401CCA9} - (no file)

O20 - Winlogon Notify: winrzf32 - winrzf32.dll (file missing)

O21 - SSODL: cholecyst - {ee2975b6-e8d5-405e-8448-8fe9590f6cfb} - (no file)

- Close ALL open windows (especially Internet Explorer!)
Click Fix Checked

=====

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Put a check next to Run VundoFix as a task.
  • You will receive a message saying vundofix will close and re-open in a minute or less. Click OK
  • When VundoFix re-opens, click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will shutdown your computer, click OK.
  • Turn your computer back on.
  • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log.
Also post a new Uninstall list please:
  • Run Hijackthis.
  • Click on Open the Misc Tools section.
  • Next click on Open uninstall manager.
  • Press the Save list button. It will open a Notepad file.
  • Copy & Paste the entire contents of that file in your in your next post.

Sorry about the delay in my reply, I had been checking everyday but didn't notice a new page had been started (using my favorites list not the notice in my e-mail, woops!). Anyway, I updated the Java as you should notice in my uninstall list, I also ran VundoFix as you requested but could not post the log as it said that no infections were found. But here are my latest uninstall list and hijackthis log. Thanks.

Trogan_1000 is away for a few days. In the meantime, we will need to re-run VundoFix again, but this time it must be done a little differently from last time, so please follow the next instructions very carefully...

IMPORTANT: Make certain that Norton Script Blocker remains disabled!

If you have removed VundoFix from your computer, please re-download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
    * Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
    * Put a check next to Run VundoFix as a task.
    * You will receive a message saying vundofix will close and re-open in a minute or less. Click OK
    * When VundoFix re-opens, click Scan for Vundo button.
    * Once the scan is complete, Right Click inside the listbox (white box) and click Add more files?
    * Copy & Paste the 2 entries below into the top 2 boxes

    o C:\WINDOWS\system32\ssttq.dll
    o C:\WINDOWS\system32\qttss.*

    * Click Add Files and click Close Window
    * Click the Remove Vundo button.
    * You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
    * Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
    * When completed, it will prompt that it will shutdown your computer, click OK.
    * Turn your computer back on.
    * Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log.

Of the two files you gave me to copy and paste, only C:\WINDOWS\system32\ssttq.dll
could be found on my computer and succesfully added to the VundoFix list. You will also notice on the VundoFix report that two versions of Java are found on my computer, but only the uptaded (5.0.7) version is on my add/remove programs list. Is this a problem, and if so, how might I remedy this? O.K., on to the logs, you will notice that repeated attempts were made to delete the file. This was due to the fact that I repeatedly tried to get the second file to add together with the first. I then tried adding the second file by itself, and discovered that it wasn't recognizing it (probably because it is not on my computer), but couldn't remove the multiple copies of the name of the first file prior to Fix. Hope that's not a problem. If so, I can do it again. Here are the logs.

Download this file - combofix.exe to your Desktop. Just leave it there.

Make sure that Norton Script Blocker is disabled, as well as the ewido guard and any other anti-malware program that may have blocking capabilities.

Next, go to > Start > Run and paste the entire following line into the command field...

"%userprofile%\desktop\combofix.exe" /v ssttq

Click "OK" and let the process finish.

A log should be produced. Post it here, along with a fresh HijackThis log.

Regarding the older Java version, search for and remove its folder, likely located in C:\Program Files\Java\

Congrats itemple7, your log is now clean. :thumbleft:

You can enable Spybots TeaTimer and Symantec Script Blocking if you wish.

You should delete the tools we used such as SmitfraudFix, VundoFix, ComboFix & KillBox as they are not required anymore, and misuse of them may harm your computer.

With that said, here are some measures you can take to stay more secure online:

Secure your Internet Explorer by going here and following the instructions there.

Better yet, use an alternative browser! Download FireFox and give it a run. It is far more secure than Internet Explorer. Or, you can get Opera.

Use a firewall to help prevent your PC(s) from being usurped by undesireables. If you don't have a Firewall, then choose one from the list here

Install an Anti-Virus. There are some good, free AV's available today. Make sure that it is updated regularly and have it scan your system often. If you don't have an Anti-Virus program, choose one from the list here

Install and keep updated, Ad-Aware SE and Spybot Search & Destroy.
Run them both on a regular basis, following the manufacturer's recommendations.

Install and keep updated, SpywareBlaster and SpywareGuard

Check for Windows Updates. Microsoft regularly post updates for your systems safe running. Make sure to take advantage of this. Reboot when installed and return to make sure there are no others.

Clear your Temp folders.
Go to Start > Control Panel > Internet Options.
Under the General tab click the Delete Files... button; check the Delete all offline content box and press OK. Next, click the Delete Cookies... button and press OK

Go to "Start" -> "Run" and type in the box: "cleanmgr" press OK. Select the drive where your Operating System is installed (Default is C:) and press OK. Let Disk Cleanup scan your system for files to remove (it takes a few minutes!). On the next screen make sure these 3 options are checked
  • Temporary Files
  • Temporary Internet Files
  • Recycle Bin
and then press "OK" to remove:

Go to Start > Find/Search > Files or folders > in the named box, type: *.tmp and choose Edit > select all -> File > delete.

Empty/delete the entire contents from the following folders:
C:\Windows\temp
C:\temp <-- if you have one.
Note: Empty contents but don't delete the folder(s) itself.

Clear out temp files from the following location. Change "username" to whatever you have on your computer.
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp\
In order to view these files you may have to select 'show hidden files/folders.' Instructions on how to here.

Empty the Recycle Bin!

Hide system files
It is very important that system files and folders are hidden again, so that they DO NOT get deleted by mistake. To hide system files and folders, do the following for your operating system...

Windows XP
* Click Start.
* Open My Computer.
* Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
* Select the View Tab.
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading, uncheck Do not show hidden files and folders
* Check the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Click Yes to confirm.
* Click OK.

For XP users.
It's a good idea to Flush your System Restore points after ridding yourself of malware: You can clean this by doing the following:

  • Click Start | Help and Support | Undo changes to your computer with System Restore.
  • Click Create A Restore Point then click Next. Give it a name it and then click Create, then Close.
  • Close the Help and Support Center box.
  • Click Start | Run and type Cleanmgr
  • Select (C: ) then click OK.
  • Click the More Options tab.
  • Click Clean Up in the System Restore Section.
This will remove all previous restore points except the newly created one.

Wow, it's gone. Thank you all for having such a place for people to come for real help. It would have been impossible for me to have accomplished half of this without your help. Thanks again, keep saving the world.
