Go to Start > Run
Type:
    regedit
Click OK.
  • On the leftside, click to highlight My Computer at the top.
  • Go up to "File > Export"
Make sure in that window there is a tick next to "All" under Export Branch.
Leave the "Save As Type" as "Registration Files".
      Under "Filename" put backup
  • Choose to save it to C:\ or somewhere else safe so that you will remember where you put it (don't put it on the desktop!)
  • Click save and then go to File > Exit.
This is so the registry can be restored to this point if we need it. It may take a minute. Just let it go until it's done.

**********************
  • Copy the contents of the Quote Box below to Notepad.
  • Name the file as fix.reg
  • Change the Save as Type to All Files
  • and Save it on the desktop

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\SharedAccess\Parameters\FirewallPolicy\StandardProfile\AuthorizedApplications\List]
"C:\\Program Files\\WinAntiVirus Pro 2006\\Updater.exe"=-

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet003\Services\SharedAccess\Parameters\FirewallPolicy\StandardProfile\AuthorizedApplications\List]
"C:\\Program Files\\WinAntiVirus Pro 2006\\Updater.exe"=-

[HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-3368898889-3369890766-93709836-1010\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\MUICache]
"C:\\Program Files\\WinAntiVirus Pro 2006\\WinAV.exe"=-
"C:\\Program Files\\WinAntiVirus Pro 2006\\VAExt.exe"=-

Make sure there are NO blank lines before REGEDIT4
Make sure there IS one blank line at the end of the file.

It should look like this: Image

Then double-click on the fix.reg file, and when it prompts to merge say yes, and this will clear some registry entries left behind by the process.

reboot

**********************
  • Copy the contents of the Quote Box below to Notepad.
  • Name the file as look.bat
  • Change the Save as Type to All Files
  • and Save it on the desktop

dir C:\Windows\system32\*.cpl>>peek.txt
notepad peek.txt

<<Doubleclick>> look.bat

It should open up a notepad document. Copy and paste the results into your next post.

thanks,

Hi, here's an update on how pc is running:

General running is slow.
WinAntivirus2006 icon is in Control panel
Nothing about it in program files or when I run search option.

If I go to safe mode, the task bar is just visible at the bottom of the screen. I cannot get it to appear fully. Lock taskbar is greyed out, I have right-clicked the task bar and gone to properties and unticked lock task bar. But taskbar is still locked even after rebooting.

In safe mode the windows button and ctrl+esc does nothing but pressing alt+F4 puts up the screen Turn off pc or restert, so I can get out without having to turn off pc at the on/off button on the case.

I have a couple of questions about general things if that ok:

1. If I have admin rights and run Cclearer or CleanUP do they clear all users temp & tempory internet folders?
2. Could the safe mode taskbar problem be virus related
3. I think the panda scan found some virri aswell could these be causing anything?

Sorry about asking but its a learning curve for me

dave :)

some quick answers to your questions; i'll be back with your fix as soon as I can.

(1) yes, running ccleaner or cleanup! should clean all user's temp files; but you don't need both programs. Cleanup! has been known to bork some systems in the past, so I don't trust it as much. You can also use window's own utility for cleaning temp files:

* Clean your Cache and Cookies in IE:
  • Close all instances of Outlook Express and Internet Explorer
  • Go to Control Panel > Internet Options > General tab
  • Click the "Delete Cookies" button
  • Next to it, Click the "Delete Files" button
  • When prompted, place a check in: "Delete all offline content", click OK
* Clean your Cache and Cookies in Firefox (In case you also have Firefox installed):
  • Go to Tools > Options.
  • Click Privacy in the menu on the left side of the Options window.
  • Click the Clear button located to the right of each option (History, Cookies, Cache).
  • Click OK to close the Options window
Alternatively, you can clear all information stored while browsing by clicking Clear All.
A confirmation dialog box will be shown before clearing the information.
* Clean other Temporary files + Recycle bin
  • Go to start > run and type: cleanmgr and click ok.
  • Let it scan your system for files to remove.
  • Make sure Temporary Files, Temporary Internet Files, and Recycle Bin are the only things checked.
  • Press OK to remove them.

(2) i don't believe this is virus related; probably a setting thing (though I don't know where you might be able to change the setting)

(3) have you run a new panda active scan since the last one I instructed you to run? If you did, and it has detected new viruses, please post the log. Otherwise, we did already target (delete) all the files that were flagged by panda, so i think you're ok there.

in any case, can you post a new hijackthis log? i haven't seen one in a while and i want to make sure nothing has changed.

thanks,

Hi,

Is this a recent Panda scan (like one you ran today?) because it looks exactly the same as the one you posted earlier (a couple days ago).

Regarding WinAntivirus in your control panel:

Find and delete this file (but do NOT empty your recycle bin)

C:\Windows\System32\av.cpl

Now go to your Control Panel and check if the WinAntivirus icon is still present. If it isn't, you may empty your recycle bin. If it is, do NOT do anything and just post back.

thanks,

Hi it is a recent Panda scan performed today.

I've removed the file av.cpl to my waste bin and the winantiviruspro2006 is no longer in the control panel, so I've emptied the waste bin.

Does this mean I am now clean?

not yet. We have to target the files flagged by Panda scan. (i thought I had you delete those exact files...but maybe i did not)

Please remove these entries from Add or Remove Programs in the Control Panel(if present):

My EmailEmoticons Toolbar
MyEmoticons

If there is no entry in Add or Remove Programs, find these files and <<double click>> them to run the uninstallers:

C:\MyEmoticons\uninstall.exe
C:\Program Files\MyEmoticons\uninstall.exe

reboot your computer,

Using Windows Explorer/My Computer, please delete the following files/folders if still present:

c:\windows\secure32.html << file
c:\windows\system32\feeds << folder
c:\documents and settings\all users\start menu\programs\iProtectYou << folder
C:\MyEmoticons\ << folder
C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\plugins\npclntax.dll << file
C:\Program Files\MyEmoticons\ << folder
C:\WINDOWS\system32\cemetrix.dll << file
C:\WINDOWS\system32\stera.exe << file

If you get an error when deleting a file, <<right click>> on the file and check to see if the read only attribute is checked. If it is uncheck it and try again.

Please note any files/folders you couldn't find or delete in your next post.

AFter reboot, post a new hijackthis log and let me know how your computer is running.

In add remove programs, there is only MyEmailemoticons toolbar, it will highlight but not be removed.

I cannot find,

C:\MyEmoticons\uninstall.exe

or

C:\Program Files\MyEmoticons\uninstall.exe

and if I try a search it cannot find them either.

Would you like me to carry on to the nexr step?

C:\MYEMOTICONS.......folder
and
C:\ProgramFiles\MYEMOTICONS\....folder

Congratulations, your log looks clean! Are you having any other problems?

If not, we have just a couple of last steps to perform and then you're all set.

First, let's reset your hidden/system files and folders. System files are hidden for a reason and we don't want to have them openly available and susceptible to accidental deletion.

    * Click Start.
    * Open My Computer.
    * Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
    * Select the View tab.
    * Under the Hidden files and folders heading UNSELECT Show hidden files and folders.
    * CHECK the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
    * Click Yes to confirm.
    * Click OK.

It's also a good idea to Flush your System Restore points after ridding yourself of malware:

  • Click Start | Help and Support | Undo changes to your computer with System Restore.
  • Click Create A Restore Point then click Next. Give it a name it and then click Create, then Close.
  • Close the Help and Support Center box.
  • Click Start | Run and type Cleanmgr
  • Select (C: ) then click OK.
  • Click the More Options tab.
  • Click Clean Up in the System Restore Section.

This will remove all previous restore points except the newly created one.

Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programs:
  • SpywareBlaster to help prevent spyware from installing in the first place.
  • SpywareGuard to catch and block spyware before it can execute.
  • IESpy-Ad to block access to malicious websites so you cannot be redirected to them from an infected site or email.

To keep your operating system up to date visit
monthly. And to keep your system clean run these free malware scanners

weekly, and be aware of what emails you open and websites you visit.

To learn more about how to protect yourself while on the internet read this article by Tony Klien: So how did I get infected in the first place?

Have a safe and happy computing day!
