Attempting to Fix SpyQuake2 (log files attached)

Unread postby lgioia » July 15th, 2006, 7:31 am

Good morning -

I recently came across this forum and I noticed that it was one of the few that were actively helping people rid themselves of malware and I thought I would give it a shot. I am experiencing the SpyQuake2 - I have since run Hijackthis and SmitFraud - the logfiles can be found below.

Thank you in advance for your help with solving this problem. I look forward to hearing from you at your soonest.

Best,

lgioia

  7. Click Yes to confirm.
  8. Uncheck the Hide file extensions for known file types.
  9. Click OK.

Kimberly -

Thank you for taking the time to help - I did a search for the DLL you requested after having enabled 'show hidden files' - no such file exists on C:\WINNT\system32.

Thoughts?

Best,

Hello lgioia,

I did a search for the DLL you requested after having enabled 'show hidden files' - no such file exists on C:\WINNT\system32.

It is possible that the file has been deleted already by another program (your antivirus for example).

Please print out or copy these instructions/tutorial to Notepad as the internet will not be (while in Safe Mode) available to you at certain points of the removal process. Make sure to work through all the Steps in the exact order in which they are listed below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before moving on with the fixes.

Delete your actual copy of SmitfraudFix, the tool has been updated in meanwhile.

Download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your Desktop.
http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix.zip
Extract all the files to your Destop. A folder named SmitfraudFix will be created on your Desktop.

Please download Ewido to your Desktop or to your usual Download Folder.
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
  • Install Ewido by double clicking the installer.
  • Follow the prompts. Make sure that Launch Ewido is checked.
  • On the main screen under Your Computer's security.
    • Click on Change state next to Resident shield. It should now change to inactive.
    • Click on Change state next to Automatic updates. It should now change to inactive.
    • Next to Last Update, click on Update now. (You will need an active internet connection to perform this)
    • Wait until you see the Update succesfull message.
Note: If the Update now option is grayed out, follow the steps below.
      • Click on Update on the toolbar.
      • Under Manual update, click on the Start Update button.
      • Wait until you see the Update succesfull message.
  • Right-click the Ewido Tray Icon and uncheck Start with Windows.
  • Right-click the Ewido Tray Icon and select Exit. Confirm by clicking Yes.
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update ewido.
Ewido manual updates.
Download the Full database to your Desktop or to your usual Download Folder and install it by double clicking the file. Make sure that Ewido is closed before installing the update.

Download Bobbi Flekman's RegSearch from
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/regsearch.php

Create a folder for RegSearch on the C: drive called C:\RegSearch. You can do this by going to My Computer then double click on C: then right click and select New then Folder and name it RegSearch. Extract all the files from the zip archive into that folder.

Open the RegSearch folder and double-click the icon for RegSearch.exe to launch the program.
Copy / Paste the following line into the Search Box:

3bb84870-e757-4fb1-a195-e2f7d3d95e40

then hit Ok

After completion Notepad will be opened with all the found instances of the string. The resulting file is saved in the same location as RegSearch.exe.

Copy/paste the following text into a new Notepad document. Make sure that you have one blank line at the end of the document as shown in the quoted text.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\SharedTaskScheduler]
"chrysenic"=-

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ShellServiceObjectDelayLoad]

Save it to your desktop as Fixme.reg. Save it as :

Name: Fixme.reg

Don't use it yet.
______________________________

Click on Start, Control Panel, click on Add/Remove Programs
Look through the installed programs for the following items and remove them if present:

During the uninstall process, you might be presented with several prompts to guide you through uninstalling the product. Read these carefully to make sure you are actually choosing to uninstall rather than keep the software.

Kim -

I appreicate your timely responses. This .dll probably isn't available because I have tried similar methods (using the tools discussed on this message boards). I will be sure to give your instructions a try and will post the necessary log files.

I will most probably not be able to get this until tomorrow (Sunday), as I will be traveling this evening.

Thanks so much in advance.

Hello lgioia,

It's a new variant which isn't completely known by the removal tools yet. The file might get detected but the startup key isn't removed for the time being. As long as the startup entry is present, you may get reinfected. Normally we should get rid of everything this time.

I will most probably not be able to get this until tomorrow (Sunday), as I will be traveling this evening.

No worries, enjoy your travel. :)

Hello lgioia,

Looks perfectly clean indeed. :)

Small regfix :

Copy/paste the following text into a new Notepad document. Make sure that you have one blank line at the end of the document as shown in the quoted text.

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{3bb84870-e757-4fb1-a195-e2f7d3d95e40}]

Save it to your desktop as Fixme.reg. Save it as :
File Type: All Files (not as a text document or it wont work).
Name: Fixme.reg

Locate Fixme.reg on your desktop and double-click it. When asked if you want to merge with the registry, click YES. Wait for the merged successfully prompt.

Can I see a new HIjackthis log please.
