Many thanks....

Hello and welcome to MR.

You don't appear to have any serious issues. However, you are running two antivirus programs at the same time, namely McAfee and Avast. We do not recommend that you have more than one anti virus product installed and running on your computer at a time. This can can lead to a conflicts and clashes as your system may lock up due to both software products attempting to access the same file at the same time.

Before we start we need to disable Trojan Hunter so that it won't interfere with the fix. Please go to TrojanHunter Guard icon in the lower right corner of your screen. It is a lightblue icon with a magnifying glass that can be difficult to see but the handle is red. Right click it and select settings. Uncheck "Load at startup" and "Enabled". Make sure that the program, TrojanHunter itself, is also closed/not running.

I see that you have DAEMON tools installed. Please read this information about it.

Scan with HijackThis and put a checkmark against the following entries:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://uk.red.clientapps.yahoo.com/cust ... _side.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://uk.red.clientapps.yahoo.com/cust ... yahoo.com/
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://uk.red.clientapps.yahoo.com/cust ... yahoo.com/
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://uk.red.clientapps.yahoo.com/cust ... _side.html
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://uk.red.clientapps.yahoo.com/cust ... yahoo.com/
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://uk.red.clientapps.yahoo.com/cust ... yahoo.com/

Make sure that all browsers (including this one), windows, applications, email, etc., except HijackThis, are closed, and click on fix checked. Exit HijackThis.

Let us know how the system is running now. Thanks. :)

Hi klown26,

The log is looking good. How is everything now?

Just to let you know I am not running mcafee virus scan( I had it as part of the internet suite but it took up much ram)only mcafee firewall....

These entries in your log tell me that you have McAfee running in your system.

c:\program files\mcafee.com\agent\mcdetect.exe
c:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\agent\mctskshd.exe
C:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\agent\mcagent.exe
C:\PROGRA~1\McAfee.com\PERSON~1\MpfTray.exe
C:\PROGRA~1\McAfee.com\PERSON~1\MpfAgent.exe
C:\PROGRA~1\McAfee.com\PERSON~1\MpfService.exe

O23 - Service: McAfee WSC Integration (McDetect.exe) - McAfee, Inc - c:\program files\mcafee.com\agent\mcdetect.exe
O23 - Service: McAfee Task Scheduler (McTskshd.exe) - McAfee, Inc - c:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\agent\mctskshd.exe
O23 - Service: McAfee SecurityCenter Update Manager (mcupdmgr.exe) - McAfee, Inc - C:\PROGRA~1\McAfee.com\Agent\mcupdmgr.exe
O23 - Service: McAfee Personal Firewall Service (MpfService) - McAfee Corporation - C:\PROGRA~1\McAfee.com\PERSON~1\MpfService.exe

These are the references to the firewall:

C:\PROGRA~1\McAfee.com\PERSON~1\MpfTray.exe
C:\PROGRA~1\McAfee.com\PERSON~1\MpfAgent.exe
C:\PROGRA~1\McAfee.com\PERSON~1\MpfService.exe
O23 - Service: McAfee Personal Firewall Service (MpfService) - McAfee Corporation - C:\PROGRA~1\McAfee.com\PERSON~1\MpfService.exe

So, McAfee is still running. I would recommend that you remove/uninstall McAfee from Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel and fix the following entries with the HijackThis:

O23 - Service: McAfee WSC Integration (McDetect.exe) - McAfee, Inc - c:\program files\mcafee.com\agent\mcdetect.exe
O23 - Service: McAfee Task Scheduler (McTskshd.exe) - McAfee, Inc - c:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\agent\mctskshd.exe
O23 - Service: McAfee SecurityCenter Update Manager (mcupdmgr.exe) - McAfee, Inc - C:\PROGRA~1\McAfee.com\Agent\mcupdmgr.exe

If your subscription expired and the McAfee firewall is not up-to-date, it would not be protecting you fully. I would suggest that you remove that as well and include the following entry in the HijackThis fix. However, that doesn't mean that you shouldn't use a firewall. On the contrary, I strongly advise that you do. I'll be giving you below some links to good free firewalls. You can pick ONE of them and install it after you've removed McAfee firewall:

O23 - Service: McAfee Personal Firewall Service (MpfService) - McAfee Corporation - C:\PROGRA~1\McAfee.com\PERSON~1\MpfService.exe

Then, using Windows Explorer (right click on Start, click on Explore) navigate to loacate the following folder and delete it:

If your McAfee firewall is up-to-date, and you want to keep the firewall only:

c:\program files\mcafee.com\agent

If you fixed both the antivirus and the firewall:

c:\program files\mcAfee.com

======================================

Here are some good firewalls. I personally use ZoneAlarm.

ZoneAlarm here
Kerio Personal Firewall here
Outpost here
Important: (Windows XP only) If you install a firewall, be sure to turn off the WinXP-firewall!

Test your firewall here to make sure that it's working properly

=======================================

Please post a fresh HijackThis log for me to see if all went well.

Hi again.I did remove mcafee virus scan and cannot understand why it is showing up.I litteraly had it on my pc for 2 weeks and like I said it slowed my pc down to a snails pace.I still have about 4 months left on my subscription ,but if you are saying virus scan is still running I will take your word for it(when I enter mcafee security centre it says "virus scan is not installed on your computor please click here if you want to purchase").If you think it would be best to totally remove mcafee all together then that is what I will do as I quite like zone alarm.

p.s pc seems to be running ok thanks for your time :)

Hello,

pc seems to be running ok thanks for your time

You're very welcome. Glad to hear that.

And for McAfee........I agree that McAfee is heavy on the resources. Since you are not interested in the virus protection of McAfee, and like ZoneAlarm as firewall, you might as well get McAfee completely out of your system.

Go to Start>Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs and remove anything McAfee.

Then scan with HijackThis and have HijackThis fix all the McAfee entries I've listed.

O23 - Service: McAfee WSC Integration (McDetect.exe) - McAfee, Inc - c:\program files\mcafee.com\agent\mcdetect.exe
O23 - Service: McAfee Task Scheduler (McTskshd.exe) - McAfee, Inc - c:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\agent\mctskshd.exe
O23 - Service: McAfee SecurityCenter Update Manager (mcupdmgr.exe) - McAfee, Inc - C:\PROGRA~1\McAfee.com\Agent\mcupdmgr.exe
O23 - Service: McAfee Personal Firewall Service (MpfService) - McAfee Corporation - C:\PROGRA~1\McAfee.com\PERSON~1\MpfService.exe[/color]

Then, locate and delete the following folder:

c:\program files\mcAfee.com

============================

Download Registry Search.

- Create a new folder on your desktop named Regsearch
- Extract regsearch.zip file to the newly created folder.
- Open the Regsearch folder and double click regsearch.exe to start the program.
- Use copy and paste to enter the following bold text to search for and click OK.

McAfee

- Notepad will be opened with text in it (the file will also be saved in the Regsearch folder as well).

Post this text in your next reply please.
