Hi mididoc,

Welcome to the MalWare Removal forums! As an Undergrad, my fixes will need to be checked by an expert first and therefore it could take some time to get back to you.

In order for me to help you, please observe the following while we work:

1. If you don't know something, stop and ask! Don't continue, we don't want to start all over again!

2. Understand that cleaning your computer can sometimes take multiple passes/posts, and it's important to follow the steps as listed including re-running scans as listed

3. Please reply to this thread, do not start another.

If you can do those three things, everything should go smoothly.

Hi again mididoc!

I don't see any indication of an Anti-Virus or Firewall program in your HJT log, so we must get you one.

Please download one of each - they are free!

Anti-Virus!
AVG Free Edition << I recommend this
AntiVir
avast! 4 Home Edition
NOTE: Update the difinitions for the Anti-Virus, but don't run a scan just yet!

Firewall
Zone Alarm << I recommend this
Sunbelt Kerio PF

Now please run a full system scan. Make a note of any files that could not be deleted and post them with your next reply.

=====

You also have an outdated version of HijackThis. Please do the following in order to download the latest version.

Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
  • Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
  • Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the "Select Addition Tasks" dialogue.
  • Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
  • Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
  • At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
  • Click on the "Do a system scan and save a log file" button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
  • Copy and paste the entire contents here.

DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Problem solved

Unread postby mididoc » July 4th, 2006, 10:27 am

After some more research I found a solution using Virtumondebegone and it seems to have rid me of this pest. Thanks for your replies and should I ever need help again I will certainly return. Thanks again.

Hi mididoc! I'm glad you solved the popup problem by using VirtumundoBegone. However, there are still some entries in your HijackThis log that need removing.

If you would like to remove these entries, follow all the instructions in my previous post, including downloading an Anti-Virus and Firewall and then posting a new HijackThis log with the latest version.

I will be waiting for your reply. :)
