Unread postby DougieBev » May 12th, 2005, 5:20 pm

Hi all,

Please be gentle with me as I am new to this game, and do not know too much about virus and alike. However this Derbiz is causing so many annoying things to happen on my PC, I have reverted to asking the pro's for some help.

Here is a log from Hijackthis.

Can anyone help me... :?:

Hi! :)
I go by wng_z3r0 here. I would be glad to help you with your computer problems.
HijackThis logs take awhile to research. Please be patient with me. I know that you want your problems solved quicky, and I will work hard to help you.

Please observe these rules while we work:
1. If you don't know, stop and ask! Don't keep going on
2. Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.

If you can do those two things, everything should go smoothly :D

please download to desktop but don't run yet:

WinsockXPFix
and this program:
Elitebarremoval

Copy the text inside the 'Code' box to Notepad, and save in a location of your choice as Fix.reg (make sure you save as type: 'all files')

Code: Select all
REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\LQ]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ohbbackup]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Elitum]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
"antiware"=-

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\UserAgent\Post Platform]
"iebar"=-

Reboot into safe mode by tapping F8 at boot, then use the up/down arrows to select safe mode

Manually find and delete :

- the ENTIRE contents of the C:\Documents and Settings\"Your User Name"\Local Settings\Temp folder

- any/all of these, if found:
C:\Windows\EliteToolBar << This file
C:\Windows\EliteSideBar << This file
C:\Windows\EliteBar << This file
C:\Windows\System32\Error.dat << This file
C:\Windows\System32\eliteerror32.dat << This file
C:\WINDOWS\system32\uk_nm.exe << This file
C:\windows\system32\elitejng32.exe << This file
C:\Program Files\Preview AdService << This folder

NOTE: To avoid the risk of any of the above not being found due to them having the 'Hidden' attribute, show all files as follows:
Click Start.
Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm.
Click OK.

Now go to Start > Run, and type Cmd then press Enter > The Command window opens.
If no commandprompt window opens, go to
Start
AllPrograms
Accessories
CommandPrompt

Copy the following line:

DEL /F /Q "%windir%\system32\elite***32.exe"

RIGHTclick your mouse in the Command Window. The line you've copied will get pasted into the command window. Subsequently press the ENTER button.

Next, still in Safe Mode, Run hijackthis again with no Windows Apps or Browser windows open, Scan, and checkmark/fix the following lines:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Preview AdService] C:\Program Files\Preview AdService\PrevAdServ.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [checkrun] C:\windows\system32\elitejng32.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ASDPLUGIN] C:\WINDOWS\system32\uk_nm.exe -N
O8 - Extra context menu item: &Search - http://bar.mywebsearch.com/menusearch.html?p=ZSzeb028

Now Doubleclick Fix.reg you saved earlier, and answer yes when prompted to add its contents to the Registry.

Now run WinsockXPFix
Then run the Elitebar tool

When you're done, start your computer normally, and post a fresh hijackthis log.

O8 - Extra context menu item: &Search - http://bar.mywebsearch.com/menusearch.html?p=ZSzeb028

Thanks wng_z3r0, ran Hijackthis again and removed the line. Appears to be working OK now, although I noticed that the 'LaunchDerbiz' icon appeared on the desktop, but only as an icon, there was no file type recognition.
Deleted the icon and seems to be OK.
Also the DialUpConnection dialogue box pops up with the Derbiz connection being prompted. Will need to monitor this.
Is there a routine that I need to follow to prevent this happening again? Do I need to run programs like SpuSubtract & Microsoft AntiSpyware on a daily/weekly basis.

Thanks again for helping me through this minefield.

Before I give you recommendations, can I please get one more HijackThis log to make sure it is all better?
