:( I have a program that keeps giving me an alert that my system is infected. When I go online it has reset my home page to go to a site to sell me anti virus programs. I keep having security toolbar on my program add remove window and I remove it but it dosen't stay removed. I have macafee anti virus and firewall and it pops up to say Fakealert B has been removed but it dosn't remove it. I installed spybot and had this problem before and it took it off but it dosn't seem to be working this time. Can you help? I don't know what to do. I have run a highjack this log but don't know how to put it up here.[/list]

Here's Scot's HJT Log -- it was ncluded in a PM to me. As he had already started this thread, I am pasting the log below.

Scot, many people do not realize that we do not provide advice via PM (Private Message). There are many reasons for this, one of which is that we all work together and cannot help each other if the posts are in private. Another is actually for the protection of the helper, in the event the computer user doesn't follow instructions correctly and has a problem.

You're in excellent hands with amateur!

Thanks Corrine :)

Hello again Scott,

Thanks for the log. We'll need to move HijackThis.exe into a folder of its own before we do any thing else so that it can function properly. Right click on an empty space on your desktop. Move your cursor to New and then to Folder and click on Folder. There will be a new Folder on your desktop, name it HijackThis. Drag and drop HijackThis.exe into this new folder.

================================

Please go to Start>Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs and remove the following:

AlfaCleaner

Then, right click on Start, click on Explore to bring up the Windows Explorer. Expand and find the following Folder and delete it:
C:\Program Files\AlfaCleaner

================================

Download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your Desktop.
http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix.zip
Extract all the files to your Destop. Click here to see how.
A folder named SmitfraudFix will be created on your Desktop.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press Enter
This program will scan large amounts of files on your computer for known patterns so please be patient while it works. When it is done, the results of the scan will be displayed and it will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed.

Please post the rapport.txt and a fresh HijackThis log in this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other options until you are asked to do so!

alfa cleaner removal

Unread postby Scott Maughmer » June 1st, 2006, 10:25 am

Corrine,
I looked in my control panel add remove programs and alfa cleaner is not listed. I went to windows explore and looked and could not find it. I did a search and also did not find it. I wrote down your directions but could not find this program even though it is listed on the highjack log I did. I am not real computer savy so I don't know if I am doing something wrong. Thanks for your help. I hope I can give you better information. I am running windows XP.
Thanks
Scott :cry:

Hello Scott, :)

Corrine is the Site Moderator, and has kindly helped to place your log in the correct thread. I am helping you with your problems and my name is "Amateur".

If you are not able to see AlfaCleaner in your Add/Remove Programs, don't worry about it now. Please carry out the rest of the instructions. :)

Hi Scott,

I downloadede smit fraud and tried to rum something. There is no option #1. I can find no rapport.txt file.

If you have downloaded the fix successfully to your desktop, you need to unzip it next. The instructions how to unzip a file are explained in this link:

http://ralphcaddell.com/pchelp/windows_ ... wizard.htm

When you do that you'll have a folder on your desktop named SmitfraudFix.
If you double click on that folder. The folder will be opened and you'll see several files in it, as shown below. One of them is called Smitfraudfix.cmd.

Double click on Smitfraudfix.cmd. A new window will open. Just press 1 on your keyboard and then press enter and wait until the scan is completed. Then using Windows Explorer, go to Local Disc C, find the rapport.text. Copy the contents of the rapport.text, come back here and paste them in your reply please.

Then, scan with HijackThis and post the new log as well.

I hope you'll be able to do it this time. :)
