Hi and welcome to the forums, your log which you have submitted here is now in the process of being analyzed, some logs take longer than others depending on the type of infection. As I am currently at undergrad status all my post are verified before final posting so this may also cause a short delay in the final post. Please be patient and I will get back to you as soon as I can

While you are wating for your reply please note...

Do not try and fix any entries that you see yourself (even if they do seem very obvious) If you do so the fix may not work as it should, leaving you open to possible immediate re-infection.

Do not disable your system restore - an infected/corrupted system restore is better than none at all, if anything should go wrong during the fix and restore is turned off then you could well be looking at a full system format. If for any reason you have already disabled your system restore then please enable it again and reboot.

Please do not post in other forums while you are being helped here This is so the HJT helpers at other forums can get on with helping other users that are in need of attention.

If you are at anytime in doubt, or unsure of anything then please ask ! Dont be frightened - we wont bite.... :)

Many Thanks - Dorian - AkA Steve :)

Hi there avalancher, your log looks free from any nasties, Im not sure myself of where the problem actually lies but I dont feel it is malware related but I am more than happy to look deeper to confirm this for you.

The only obvious thing that sticks out is that your java needs updating to the current version
Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system.
Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components.

Close any programmes you may have running, ESPECIALLY your web browser
Click Start > Control Panel.
Click Add/Remove Programs.
Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
Repeat as many times as necessary to remove all versions of Java.
Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.

Then download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment and install it to your computer.

Now for a deeper scan using HJT.....

I would like you to run a startup check with HJT just to double check things over

Open up HJT - Select the fourth button - Open the misc tools section
Place a check at the side of the box that says List also minor sections (full)
Place a check at the side of the box that says List empty sections (complete}
Now click on the generate startuplist button
Once done a log will be generated, save this to a safe place and post it along to me here as a reply to this post, do not start a new topic, thanks :)

Howdy there avalancher

Your log is free from malware which is good. I do notice that java has not been updated yet. Older versions of java have vunerablilities which can comprimise your computers security. As for your original problem, it looks as though it is related to McAfee's SpamKiller, from what I have found out this program changes your settings in the default email program. I feel that asking around in McAfee's Forum your problems can be solved by someone who deals with this specific software on a more advanced level. I hope this advice is of good help to you :D

Just a quick update, I notice that you have an entry that I have missed out on earlier.....

The entry is regarding SpywareBot, this is a program that is described as rouge software - more information on this and other rogue programs is available from here I advise that you remove this software by uninstalling it using using control panel --> add remove programs, look for the following entry in the list --> SpywareBot and then select the option to remove it. If you encounter any problems at all during the uninstall please let me know

Thanks - Dorian
