Register to Remove

Unread postby agrarianmonk » May 1st, 2006, 12:07 pm

**********************
  • Copy the contents of the Quote Box below to Notepad.
  • Name the file as fix.reg
  • Change the Save as Type to All Files
  • and Save it on the desktop

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Folder\shellex\ColumnHandlers\{CE3A44D8-BC88-4D62-A890-42D96245F8D6}]

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\Explorer\Run]
"unipl4 "=-

Make sure there are NO blank lines before REGEDIT4
Make sure there IS one blank line at the end of the file.

Then double-click on the fix.reg file, and when it prompts to merge say yes, and this will clear some registry entries left behind by the process.

****************************************

  • Please double-click Killbox.exe to run it.
  • Select:
    • Delete on Reboot
    • then Click on the All Files button.
  • Please copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy):

    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\i420vfw.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\nsy1DB.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\x.264.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\yv12vfw.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\dmonwv.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\unipl4.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\strings.exe

  • Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose Paste from Clipboard.
  • Click the red-and-white Delete File button. Click Yes at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click OK at any PendingFileRenameOperations prompt (and please let me know if you receive this message!).

If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.

If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run Killbox, click here to download and run missingfilesetup.exe. Then try Killbox again.

****************************************

After the reboot

Open up the Hosts Manager, and click Download at the top left.

Click Replace... from the menu that pops up.

Now click Save.

Close Hosts Manager.

*In most cases a large HOSTS file (over 135 kb) tends to slow down the machine. This only occurs in W2000 and XP. Windows 98 and ME are not affected.

* Start | Run (type) "services.msc" (no quotes)
* Scroll down to "DNS Client", Right-click and select: Properties
* Click the drop-down arrow for "Startup type"

regarding your IE problem, let's try a reinstall:

Please go to:
start-->run

and type this in:
regedit

Then click on the FILE menu and select export
Save the file as backup. Save the file somewhere you will remember and not delete.
IMPORTANT: make sure to set the export range to ALL

Then, go to start-->run

and type this in:
notepad

Paste this into the box:
Code: Select all
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components\
{89820200-ECBD-11cf-8B85-00AA005B4383}]
"IsInstalled"=dword:00000000

Then click on the FILE menu and select save as
Save the file as regfix.reg. Save the file to the desktop.
IMPORTANT: make sure to save the file as "all types" and NOT as a text file

Now double click on fixreg.reg and insert it into the registry.

Then, go here, and reinstall Internet Explorer:
Internet Explorer Update

*let me know if you were able to successfully reinstall IE and if any other problems persist.

This is what happened !!

Unread postby unlv » May 1st, 2006, 1:42 pm

When doing TrendMicroâ„¢ HouseCall Java Scan :

# Once the scan was complete, there were some infections in the the summary page.
# Under Cleanup options, I cleaned all detected infections automatically.
# then I Clicked the Clean now>> button.

Thats when Firefox locked up and then I had to close the error message !

Also when I clicked on Firefox again A box came up saying I had to use a Default name ,so I did and I lost all my favorites ! Whats going on !!

Should I try a TrendMicroâ„¢ HouseCall Java Scan AGAIN !!

et's see if this method works:

Method 1: Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.x Repair for Windows XP

* From the Start menu, select Run.
* In the Open field, type sfc /scannow (Note: There is a space between sfc and /scannow)
* Select the OK button.
* Follow the prompts throughout the System File Checker process.
* Reboot the computer when System File Checker completes.

*let me know if this method worked. if it doesn't, we'll try something else.

We need to make sure all hidden files are showing so please:
  • Click Start.
  • Open My Computer.
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  • Select the View tab.
  • Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
  • Uncheck the Hide file extensions for known types option.
  • Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
  • Click Yes to confirm.
  • Click OK.

Now open Explorer and navigate to c:\windows\inf. Locate the ie.inf file and right-click on it. Choose Install from the popup window and let IE reinstall. When finished, reboot the machine and try IE.
