Windows takes a long time to start - Hijack This log

Unread postby massimo_01 » April 19th, 2006, 2:58 pm

Hi. I went through and removed a bunch of spyware with AdAware & Spybot and I ran Trojan Hunter (found nothing). Windows is still starting slowly. Basically I see my desktop and icons and NAV comes up with a circle & line through it and sits there forever. Finally it loses the line and I can run my stuff. Any suggestions is much appreciated. Thanks alot.

Hi massimo... first thing you need to do is Update Windows.

Please go here and download and install SP1a for now. When you have that done... post a new HJT log please.

Yeah... I realized after I posted that I didn't have SP2 installed, so I started that install. I will post again after it is done and updated. Sorry for the waste of time.

OK. SP2 and all high-priority updates installed. It no longer takes a long time when Windows is starting up, but it does take a long time once in windows. I used msconfig to disable NAV, but that did not help. Here is my updated log:

Hmmm.... not seeing much there....

Run HijackThis... click the Misc Tools button then the Open Uninstall Manager button then the Save List button. Save it to your desktop for now.

Download WinPFind. Run the program(may take a while to complete its scan).

Once it is done... post the contents of the log it creates along with the Uninstall list log.

Thanks!

Not seeing anything really bad in the logs... nothing malware related anyways.

Personally... I'd uninstall Party Poker... but you most likely use it.

Slowness could be something hardware/software related.

I suggest going to PCPitStop, registering there and doing one of their full scans. Might give you some insight into the slowness issue.

Well I figured it out. After a long night last night of uninstalling and upgrading software and rebooting after each one I found that it was not malware at all, but rather a really slow Intel ProSet software trying to connect to the network. I upgraded it and it is 100% better.

Thank you for all your time and effort. I truely do appreciate it.
