Before I spend time writing a fix ......... did you have any problems running FRST ........ like you did with OTL.

I'd just like to know, because if FRST had similar problems, then it's likely that any fix created for it may run into the same issues as OTL.

Sorry, I should have asked you to let me know about this when I asked you to run the scan, but I was in a bit of a rush when I posted the instructions.

No problem what so ever worked like a charm. After the problems with OTL I would have let you know from the outset

NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user. Running it on another machine may cause damage to your operating system

  • Start FRST in a similar manner to when you ran a scan earlier, but this time when it opens ....
    • Press the Fix button once and wait.
    • FRST will process fixlist.txt
    • When finished, it will produce a log fixlog.txt in the same folder/directory as FRST64.exe.

Next ...

Download TFC by OldTimer to your Desktop.
  • Close ALL running applications as TFC will terminate them before attempting to clean up the temporary files.
  • Double-click on the TFC icon.
  • When the program starts, click on the Start button. TFC will terminate the Explorer process and all running applications and then begin the process of cleaning out all of your temp folders.
  • When done, press OK to reboot your computer and finish the cleanup.

Please let me know if there's any improvement in the performance of your computer.

That's not exactly clarifying things, I'm afraid you're going to have to be a bit more informative.

Sorry about that, the oops was a removal of the fixlog that I posted there. The process was fine and it does seem to have improved the performance of the computer. I thank you for your help. It is muchly appreciated

Actually I wanted to see the fixlog, so if you've got it please post it. In the meantime I'll start going through your auto startups so I can create a list for you to look through, that way you can decide whether there's any that you don't need to be running all the time.

Freeing up memory should improve the computer's performance a bit more.

Of the start up programs

mRun: [Adobe ARM] "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\ARM\1.0\AdobeARM.exe"

mRun: [AdobeCS6ServiceManager] "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\CS6ServiceManager\CS6ServiceManager.exe" -launchedbylogin

mRun: [SunJavaUpdateSched] "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Java\Java Update\jusched.exe"

x64-Run: [CanonSolutionMenu] C:\Program Files (x86)\Canon\SolutionMenu\CNSLMAIN.exe /logon

x64-Run: [AdobeAAMUpdater-1.0] "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\OOBE\PDApp\UWA\UpdaterStartupUtility.exe"

x64-Run: [Logitech Download Assistant] C:\Windows\System32\rundll32.exe C:\Windows\System32\LogiLDA.dll,LogiFetch

and

StartupFolder: C:\Users\Father\AppData\Roaming\MICROS~1\Windows\STARTM~1\Programs\Startup\DELLDO~1.LNK - C:\Program Files\Dell\DellDock\DellDock.exe

These would be the ones that I would like to disable, I am sure the Crashplan is very memory intensive I want to leave it enabled until I can get my initial backup finished. I have well over 3Tb of photos I need to back up and have saved offsite. That is also why I have the Photoshop stuff on there.

OK, lets disable those auto starts then ....

First ...

Before we start disabling anything, I'd like you to make a backup of your Registry, which we can restore to if necessary.

Please click on THIS link, and follow the instructions for installing TCRB and creating a backup of your Registry.

Next ...

  • Click Start
  • Type notepad.exe in the search programs and files box and clcik Enter.
  • A blank Notepad page should open.
    • Copy/Paste the contents of the code box below into Notepad. (do not include Code: Select all)
Code: Select all
HKLM-x32\...\Run: [AdobeCS6ServiceManager] - C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\CS6ServiceManager\CS6ServiceManager.exe [1075296 2013-04-25] (Adobe Systems Incorporated)
HKLM\...\Run: [CanonSolutionMenu] - C:\Program Files (x86)\Canon\SolutionMenu\CNSLMAIN.EXE [767312 2009-03-17] (CANON INC.)
HKLM\...\Run: [AdobeAAMUpdater-1.0] - C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\OOBE\PDApp\UWA\updaterstartuputility.exe [472984 2013-09-25] (Adobe Systems Incorporated)
Reg: reg delete "HKLM\Software\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run" /v "Adobe Arm" /f
Reg: reg delete "HKLM\Software\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run" /v "SunJavaUpdateSched" /f
Reg: reg delete "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run" /v "Logitech Download Assistant" /f
Startup: C:\Users\Father\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\Dell Dock.lnk

    • Save it to the same folder/directory that FRST.exe is in, naming it as fixlist.txt

Please let me know how your computer is performing now, or if you have any problems.

Gary R, I thank you very much. The computer booted up faster than I remember, the main thing I want to check on is to see how Photoshop works with the changes we made. Oh I also think I should have left the Dell Dock alone as that is a dock that has the programs I use the most ie Pshop Lightroom, Firefox, etc. Is there a way I can roll it back to use that but get rid of the others? I mean other than doing a restore and running FRST without the Dell Dock in the Fixlist text? Either way I thank you very much for your help, you have saved me some grey hairs.
Merry Christmas to you all.

To put Dell Dock back into your Stsrtup folder, please do the following ....

  • Click Start > Computer and in the "title bar" at the top copy/paste C:\Users\Father\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
  • Now click on the right arrow -> to the right of it.
  • This should open your Startup folder.

Next ...

Leave the Startup folder open and then ...

  • Navigate to C:\Program Files\Dell\DellDock\DellDock.exe
  • Right click on DellDock.exe and select Create a shortcut.
  • This should create a shortcut in the folder you are in.
  • You may be told that a shortcut could not be created in that location and asked if you want to create one on your Desktop, if so answer yes.
  • Once the shortcut is created, drag and drop it into the Startup folder.
Any problems let me know.
