slickrick,

You do still have some problems in there. Don't surf until we fix it, or you will pick up more junk.
Your HiJackThis version is very old, and it's in the wrong place. Let's correct that first, and get a new log.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Download HijackThis, Install it and Post a log
My standard instructions are below.
Create a folder for HijackThis. To make a new permanent folder:
- Go to My Computer, doubleclick C:
- Click File, New, Folder
- type in HJT
You now have a new folder at C:\HJT\
Download the HijackThis self extracting file to your new HJT folder.
- Double click HijackThis_sfx.exe, and select Unzip. When done click OK.
- Close the window.
If you have difficulty downloading and unzipping HJT, there is a different set of very detailed pictorial instructions here: http://www.netstar.me.uk/hjt/hjt.html

Start HijackThis. If the opening screen shows, choose None of the above, just start the program.
Click Do System Scan and Save a Log File. The log will open up in notepad. Use Ctrl-A to select the entire log, and Ctrl-C to Copy, Then go to Reply in this topic, and paste the contents of the log into the reply.
Please don't delete anything from the log before or after pasting it. You may add comments.

slickrick,
Please don't do any other cleanups except these, unless we agree ahead of time. Some of these corrections need to be done in a specific sequence.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Disable Windows Defender
Go to Start > All Programs > Windows Defender.
Click on the Tools menu, click General Settings, Scroll down to Real-Time Protection Options section and Deactivate the Real-Time Protection system.

Then, in the toolbar across the top there is a little downpointing arrow next to the question mark icon.
Click on that, get a drop down list. One of the options is to exit Windows Defender.
Click on that, and there will be a pop up asking if you are sure you want to exit. Click Yes/OK.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Stop Processes Prior to Deletion
Close ALL open windows. Use Ctrl-Alt-Delete together to bring up the task manager.
Under the processes tab, if it is visible, check the box 'Show processes from all users'.
One at a time, highlight each of these that are listed and "End Process":

swnxt.exe
RunApp.exe

Restart the task manager to verify that the processes are gone.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Use Add/Remove Programs In Control Panel
From Start, Settings, Control Panel or Start, Control Panel, click Add/Remove Programs.
Highlight each Entry, as follows, one by one, if it exists, and choose Remove :

Spyware Nuker
Party Poker
Party Gaming

Take extra care in answering questions posed by any Uninstaller. Some questions may be worded to deceive you into Keeping the program.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Remove log items with HighjackThis. Start HijackThis.
Click Scan. When the Scan is complete, Check the following entries:
(Some of these lines may be missing)
R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {1A7A8229-2C62-A641-A8B7-8EFCC09CFE64} - WhatsNewBot.dll (file missing)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SWN2] C:\Program Files\Spyware Nuker\swnxt.exe /h
O9 - Extra button: PartyPoker.com - {B7FE5D70-9AA2-40F1-9C6B-12A255F085E1} - c:\program files\PartyGaming\PartyPoker\RunApp.exe
O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: PartyPoker.com - {B7FE5D70-9AA2-40F1-9C6B-12A255F085E1} - c:\program files\PartyGaming\PartyPoker\RunApp.exe
O16 - DPF: {56336BCB-3D8A-11D6-A00B-0050DA18DE71} - http://207.188.7.150/1431b165f9924185db ... xIE601.cab

Unless your Internet Service Provider is in the Ukraine, also BE SURE to check the following lines :

O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{152D0D6F-6CF7-4C16-A4BC-C426518CB3C0}: NameServer = 85.255.116.41,85.255.112.125
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{22F533FE-D2CE-41B9-B131-BE096629B0AF}: NameServer = 85.255.116.41,85.255.112.125
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{9658C212-B13F-478E-8BDA-77D1745D0696}: NameServer = 85.255.116.41,85.255.112.125
O17 - HKLM\System\CS1\Services\Tcpip\..\{152D0D6F-6CF7-4C16-A4BC-C426518CB3C0}: NameServer = 85.255.116.41,85.255.112.125

Make sure Every other window except HJT is closed (No other tabs showing in the bottom tray), and Click Fix Checked.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Folder Deletion.
In Windows Explorer (My Computer), select View, Details. Then Find and Delete these folder(s), if present:
C:\Program Files\PartyGaming\
C:\Program Files\Spyware Nuker\
Note any folder you cannot delete.
You may have to delete all the underlying files and folders before a target folder can be deleted.
If you have any problem deleting a file, right click the file and check Properties to see if it's read-only. Uncheck the read-only box, click Apply and OK. Then retry Delete.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Download ATF Cleaner by Atribune © from here : http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=1
It is a stand-alone program that does not need to be "installed". Save it to a convenient location and make a shortcut on your desktop.

Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main, choose Select All
Click Empty Selected

If you use Firefox browser,
Click Firefox at the top and choose Select All
Click on Empty Selected
NOTE: If you would like to keep any saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit to close.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Post a New HJT Log
Reboot your computer. Start HijackThis. Click Do System Scan and Save a Log File.
When the Scan is complete, select the whole log (Ctrl-A), copy and paste the log contents in a reply.

slickrick,
Looks a lot better.
Since you have had a Wareout infection, let's do an extra check:
-----------------------------------------------------------
Download Blacklight Beta from here:
http://www.f-secure.com/blacklight/try.shtml
* Hit I accept. It will take you to the download page.
* Download blbeta.exe and save it to the Desktop.
* Once saved... double click blbeta.exe to install the program.
* Click accept agreement and Click scan
This app too may fire off a warning from your antivirus. Let the driver load.
Wait for it to finish.
* If it displays any items...don't do anything with them yet. Just hit exit (close)
* It will drop a log on your Desktop that starts with fsblxxxx.log, where xxxx is a big number
Please post contents of the log.

slickrick,

Looks like you are good to go.
I would suggest a few extra protective measures:
-----------------------------------------------------------
Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will add a large list of programs and sites to your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from accidentally running or downloading known malicious programs. Available from http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html
After the installation, click Download Latest Protection Updates. When it finishes, click Enable All Protection.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Download and Install a HOSTS File
A Hosts file is a plain text file which prevents your computer from connecting to malware and spyware sites by redirecting the connection request to 127.0.0.1, which is your local address. If you use a proxy server, or if you are on AOL, be sure to read the special instructions.
You can download the MVPS Hosts File and see a HOSTS file tutorial here : http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm
This website also contains useful tips, and links to other resources and utilities.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Re-Enable Windows Defender
Go to Start > All Programs > Windows Defender.
Click on the Tools menu, click General Settings, Scroll down to Real-Time Protection Options section and Activate the Real-Time Protection system.

Good Luck and Nice Work !

Hey Askey127,
Is partypoker really that dangerous?
Will Firefox be an important tool in not getting infected in the future?
Any other rec's?

Also, I will be donating to the site....you guys are awesome! It's like having your own IT Dept!!!!

1 more thing...below is the HJT file from my laptop, please take a look?

Sincerely, Rick

slickrick,

Let's take one subject at a time-
Party Poker is a vehicle used by 180Solutions and WhenU to distribute adware/spyware. Most well researched block lists have it on their list as a block.
You will pick up banners and popups if you go there. The HOSTS file you downloaded may have it on their forbidden list and may actually stop you.
Same is true for EmpirePoker and a lot of other free poker sites.

Firefox is a lot safer than IE because it will not allow ActiveX's to run. An ActiveX is a program that a website owns that it runs "by remote control" on your machine. You can guess that permission for an outsider to run his own prog on your machine is dangerous. Some malware producers would like to install stuff that's very hard to remove (like WareOut).

The only thing actually you NEED Internet Explorer for is the Express version of Windows Automatic Updates. You can use Firefox for practically everything else.

About the laptop- please start another thread (a new topic) like "Here is my Laptop" or whatever, and post the HJT log there Please. Because of the way our log archives are done, we stick to one PC per topic (thread).

Glad we could help with your PC.
Good Luck,
