Phase 2 ...Change the boot order of the computer to boot from a USB drive ....To enable you to boot from the bootable USB drive that you have just created, you need to adjust your BIOS settings to change the order in which your computer boots, so that it boots from a USB drive before attempting to boot from your hard drive.
Below is an example of how to do this on a typical computer, the exact method may be different on your computer, but is likely to be very similar.

- Power down your computer.
- Now power up your computer, whilst hitting the F2 key. (some computers use the DEL or F10 key)
- This should bring up your BIOS Setup Utility panel, which should look something similar to the one below.

- Following the instructions usually found at the bottom of the utility screen, select the Boot menu option.
- This should bring up a screen similar to the one below.
- Again, following the instructions on screen, change the order of the drives from which your computer boots.
- In the example shown above, the computer has been set so it boots first from the DVD drive, then from the USB drive, then from the Hard drive.
- Next ...
- When you have set the boot order so that the computer boots from USB before it boots from hard drive ...
- Select the Exit menu.
- Choose Exit saving changes (see below)
- Your computer should now save the changes, and then boot up as normal.
Please note ... There should be no need to reset the BIOS boot order when you have finished recovering your files. Your computer will function perfectly well with the new boot order, and provided there is no USB plugged into your computer it will boot up as usual.
However, at some point in the future, you may forget you've changed the BIOS boot order, and power up your computer with a non-bootable USB in the USB port. In that case you will receive a message saying your computer cannot boot from non-bootable media. If that happens, remove all USBs from the USB ports and reboot, your computer will then start as normal.
