Error message when trying to logon - not sure if infected?

Unread postby bruceyfamily » July 24th, 2012, 12:58 pm

My sons computer has been turned on this morning and normally when the login window comes up we just hit enter as there is no password and it boots up all ok.

Its running Windows XP Home.

Today we are receving the following error message:

"the system could not log you on as the domain HOME is not available"

I have just tried to boot in safe mode but you get the same login box and error.

Not sure what to do or how to get in to fix/restore. Please could someone help. It is not part of a domain only a home computer. Have tried booting using last safe configuration and that gets the same error message to.
Machine is AMD Sempron (tm) 2800+ running Windows XP Home edition SP3. Any help would be appreciated.

Someone suggested I post here incase the pc is infected?

I am unable to attach any DDS logs as I cannot login to download the tool unless someone can give me advice how to do this without logging in?

Many thanks

While we appreciate that you very likely posted at multiple forums in order to ensure a response, that only serves to tie up the time of multiple helpers who could be using that time to help someone else who also has problems. Although there are many help forums, there are not so many helpers; most of us help out at several forums. In addition, the results may not work out so well when you're following different instructions from different helpers. They may suggest different approaches for the same problem, all of which may be good; however, system conflicts may arise if different fixes for the same problem are applied simultaneously. As you can see, you have already received different answers at several of the forums at which you have posted.

In the future, for your sake as well as ours, please refrain from requesting help from multiple forums. Choose one, and stick with that one until they've resolved your problem.
