Hi Valerie and welcome to Malware Removal Forum.
My name is Cypher, and I will be helping you with your malware problems.
If you no longer require help i would be grateful if you would let me know.

Before we start please note the following important guidelines.
  • The instructions being given are for YOUR computer and system only!.
Using these instructions on a different computer, can damage that computer and possibly make it inoperable!
  • If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to ask.
  • Only post your problem at One help site. Applying fixes from multiple help sites can cause problems.
  • Only reply to this thread do not start another, Please continue responding until I give you the "All Clean"
Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
  • Please DO NOT run any other tools or scans whilst I am helping you.
  • Please DO NOT install any other software (or hardware) during the cleaning process.
  • Print each set of instructions... if possible...your Internet connection will not be available during some fix processes.
  • Your security programs may give warnings for some of the tools I will ask you to use. Be assured, any links I give are safe.
  • Note: No Reply Within 3 Days Will Result In Your Topic Being Closed!

Note: If you haven't done so already, please read this topic ALL USERS OF THIS FORUM MUST READ THIS FIRST where the conditions for receiving help here are explained.
Please be aware that removing Malware is a potentially hazardous undertaking. I will take care not to knowingly suggest courses of action that might damage your computer. However it is impossible for me to foresee all interactions that may happen between the software on your computer and those we'll use to clear you of infection, and I cannot guarantee the safety of your system. It is possible that we might encounter situations where the only recourse is to re-format and re-install your operating system, or to necessitate you taking your computer to a repair shop.

Because of this, I advise you to backup any personal files and folders before you start.
Backup Made Easy - XP
Backup your data - Vista
Backup your data - windows 7

Windows 7 Advice:
  • All applications I ask to be used will require to be run in Administrator mode. IE: Right click on and select Run as Administrator.
  • Your Operating System in use comes with a inbuilt utility called User Access Control(UAC).
  • When prompted by this with anything I ask you to do carry out please select the option Allow.

Download/run Rkill:

Please download Rkill from one of the following links and save to your Desktop:

One, Two,Three or Four

  • Right-click on Rkill And select " Run as administrator " to run it.
  • A command window will open then disappear upon completion, this is normal.
  • When finished, Notepad will open with a log called, "rkill.log".
  • Please copy and paste the contents of the rkill.log in your next reply.
  • The file is automatically saved... located at C:\rkill.log.
  • Please leave Rkill on the Desktop until otherwise advised.

Note: If your security software warns about Rkill, please ignore and allow the download to continue.

Next.

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and save to your desktop.

  • Right-click mbam-setup.exe And select " Run as administrator " then follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to:
    Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform Quick Scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Check all items except items in the C:\System Volume Information folder... and click Remove Selected.
Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process, if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please copy and paste the log back into your next reply
  • The log can also be found here:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\mbam-log-date (time).txt

Next.

RSIT (Random's System Information Tool)

Please download RSIT by random/random... and save it to your desktop.
  • Right click on RSIT.exe and select "Run As Administrator" to run it. If Windows UAC prompts you, please allow it.
  • Please read the disclaimer... click on Continue.
  • RSIT will start running. When done... 2 logs files...will be produced.
  • The first one, "log.txt", << will be maximized
  • The second one, "info.txt", << will be minimized.
Please post both... "log.txt" and "info.txt", file contents in your next reply.
(These logs can be lengthy, so post 1 log per reply please.)

Logs/Information to Post in your Next Reply

  • Malwarebytes log.
  • RSIT log.txt and info.txt contents.
  • Please give me an update on your computers performance.

Hey Cypher-

Thanks for your help. I did the Rkill and the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware downloads. For the MBAM results (after I ran the scan), I do not see a "C:\System Volume Information folder" that you mentioned NOT to delete. Is that ok? I have not removed anything in the results yet and won't until I hear back from you. Thanks!!!!

Ok, my computer automatically scanned when I just restarted it after running Rkill made my computer freeze, and it found another thing-- . I don't know if its related or not, so I'll mention it here. My kids haven't been on my computer at all, and I know I haven't gone to any shady sites, so I'm not sure where this one came from.

Hi Valerie.
Thanks again!! I truly appreciate it!

You're welcome.
My kids haven't been on my computer at all, and I know I haven't gone to any shady sites, so I'm not sure where this one came from.
It would be helpful if you could keep the computer use at a minimum until we get it clean.
Quick question have you been helped at another forum? some entries in your logs suggest you have.

Uninstall programs
  • Click on Start.
  • All programs.
  • Accessories.
  • Run.
  • In the open text box copy/paste appwiz.cpl Then click Ok.
  • Uninstall the following
Coupon Printer for Windows

Next.

Back Up registry with ERUNT

  • Please download ERUNT and save it to your desktop.
  • Alternate Download
  • Right-click on erunt_setup.exe and select " Run as administrator " to run it.
  • Untick the NTREGOPT desktop shortcut option
  • Click No when you get the option to run Erunt at Windows startup.
  • During the installation, tick Launch Erunt.
  • Accept the default options for running a backup.
  • Erunt will then backup your registry.
  • Click OK to finish.
  • If you are unable to back up your Registry with ERUNT ....
    • Let me know.
    • Do not follow any further instructions until I tell you to.

Next.

Download and run OTM

Download OTM.exe by Old Timer and save it to your Desktop.
  • Right-click OTM.exe and select " Run as administrator " to run it.
  • Right-click then copy the following code, Do not include the word Code.
    Code: Select all
    :Reg
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search]
    "SearchAssistant"="http://ie.search.msn.com/{SUB_RFC1766}/srchasst/srchasst.htm"
    "CustomizeSearch"="http://ie.search.msn.com/{SUB_RFC1766}/srchasst/srchcust.htm"
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings]
    "ProxyOverride"=-
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects\{02478D38-C3F9-4efb-9B51-7695ECA05670}]
    [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{02478D38-C3F9-4efb-9B51-7695ECA05670}]
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects\{5C255C8A-E604-49b4-9D64-90988571CECB}]
    [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{5C255C8A-E604-49b4-9D64-90988571CECB}]
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
    "NvCplDaemonTool"=-

    :Files
    C:\Program Files\Coupons
    C:\Users\Owner\qrloadC6.dll
    ipconfig /flushdns /c

    :Commands
    [EmptyFlash]
    [emptytemp]
    [ClearAllRestorePoints]
    [start explorer]
    [Reboot]

    • Return to OTM, right-click then paste the code into the blank box below Image
    • Next click on the large Image button.
    • OTM may ask to reboot the machine. Please do so if asked.
    • Copy everything in the Results window (under the green bar), and paste it in your next reply.

NOTE: If you are unable to copy/paste from this window (as will be the case if the machine was rebooted), open Notepad (Start->All Programs->Accessories->Notepad), click File->Open, in the File Name box enter *.log and press the Enter key, navigate to the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles folder, and open the newest .log file present, and copy/paste the contents of that document back here in your next post.

Next.

Re-run - RSIT (Random's System Information Tool)

You should still have this program on your desktop.
  • Right click on RSIT.exe and select "Run As Administrator" to run it. If Windows UAC prompts you, please allow it.
  • Please read the disclaimer... click on Continue.
  • RSIT will start running. When done... ONLY the "C:\RSIT\log.txt"...will be reproduced. ( it will be maximized )
  • Please post ONLY the "log.txt", file contents in your next reply.
(This log can be lengthy, so a separate post may be needed.)

Next.

Please download TDSSKiller.zip and extract (unzip) it to your Desktop.
  • Right click on TDSSKiller.exe and select " Run as administrator " to run it.
  • Click on Start Scan, the scan will run.
  • When the scan has finished, if it finds anything please click on the drop down arrow next to Cure and select Skip
  • Now click on Report to open the log file created by TDSSKiller in your root directory C:\
  • To find the log go to Start > Computer > C:
  • Post the contents of that log in your next reply please.
  • DO NOT TRY TO FIX ANYTHING AT THIS POINT

Logs/Information to Post in your Next Reply

  • Have you been helped at another forum?
  • OTM log.
  • RSIT log.txt.
  • TDSSKiller log.
  • Please give me an update on your computers performance.

No, I haven't requested/ received help at any other sites. When I googled the original problem, this was the first help site I saw, so I stopped looking. I ran the rkill and mbam scans when you first replied, but then I came across the question about deleting stuff from mbam, so I re-ran those programs right before posting the logs so you could see the most current results. Maybe that's what you're seeing? Other than that, I have no clue. I will do the other things you told me to do in a little bit.

Hi blanval.
No, I haven't requested/ received help at any other sites.

Systemlook is a tool that is used by malware removal helpers and it has been run on your system.
C:\windows\system32\SystemLook.txt

Thats why i asked if you had been helper elsewhere.
I will do the other things you told me to do in a little bit.

Ok post the requested logs when ready.

Wow that ESET scan took forever! My computer seems to be running pretty good right now. Things are loading MUCH faster and I just checked Excel (where I really noticed the issues before), and I can now copy and paste and insert new columns quickly (normal speed), versus before, when I would go to paste a cell or insert a new column/row and it would literally take 15 seconds per copy and paste.

Can you tell where I got the malware from? I mean, if it was from one of my kid's game sites or a facebook app, or it could even be one of the sites I checked out-- Im in anatomy, so for exams, I download as many "games" or quizzes as possible in order to practice and review.

I know I keep saying it, but thank you so much for taking the time to help me!! I wish I knew more about computers so I could do it myself, but that is definitely not one of my areas of expertise!!!
