Your system should be running better.
Whenever this happens, though, you need to suspect that there may be something wrong with the hard drive.
Best to have file backups for important items, and make sure you have the ability to re-install Windows on a new drive.
You do need to try the Windows Update and see if it works properly.

I've backed up important files for the future. I'm going to bed right now, but sometime today I will reply with an update on the Windows Update. If you are not available to help due to the Holiday - I understand. Thank you for the help so far.
