Have a look at C:\Program Files\ESET\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt and see if it is there, we might get lucky. :)

I looked again in the Program Files but the ESET file was no longer there. So, I ran the ESET scan again, but this time I did not uninstall it when closing the application. Voila, the log appeared! ..........

Any problems remaining? Before we clean up.

Update Java Runtime

You are using an old version of Java. Sun's Java is sometimes updated in order to eliminate the exploitation of vulnerabilities in an existing version. For this reason, it's extremely important that you keep the program up to date, and also remove the older more vulnerable versions from your system. The most current version of Sun Java is: Java Runtime Environment Version 6 Update 22.
  • Go to Java Site
  • Scroll down to where it says "JDK 6 Update 22 (JDK or JRE)"
  • Click the orange Download JRE button to the right
  • Select the Windows platform from the dropdown menu
  • Read the License Agreement and then check the box that says: "I agree to the Java SE Runtime Environment 6 with JavaFX License Agreement". Click on Continue. The page will refresh
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation & save the file to your desktop
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser
  • Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel, double-click on Add/Remove Programs
  • Uninstall all old versions of Java (Java 3 Runtime Environment, JRE or JSE) listed below in the code box.
    Code: Select all
    Java(TM) 6 Update 18
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u22-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version
  • After the install is complete, go into the Control Panel (using Classic View) and double-click the Java Icon. (looks like a coffee cup)
    • On the General tab, under Temporary Internet Files, click the Settings button
    • Next, click on the Delete Files button
    • There are two options in the window to clear the cache - Leave BOTH Checked
        Applications and Applets
        Trace and Log Files
    • Click OK on Delete Temporary Files Window
Note: This deletes ALL the Downloaded Applications and Applets from the CACHE
    • Click OK to leave the Temporary Files Window
    • Click OK to leave the Java Control Panel

Your logs look good. If you are not having any further problems, I would suggest you proceed as follows.

MBAM and TFC are great tools for you to keep and use on a regular basis.

You can Delete System Look and the file it created from your desktop.

Uninstall ComboFix:

  • Click on Start >> Run...
  • Now type in ComboFix /Uninstall into the and click OK.
  • Note the space between the X and the /Uninstall, it needs to be there.
  • Image

The above procedure will implement some cleanup procedures as well as reset System Restore points

Let's clear out the programs we've been using to clean up your computer, they are not suitable for general malware removal and could cause damage if used inappropriately.

  • Double-click OTM.exe. (Vista users, please right click on OTM.exe and select "Run as an Administrator")
  • Click the CleanUp! button.
  • Select Yes when the "Begin cleanup Process?" prompt appears.
  • If you are prompted to Reboot during the cleanup, select Yes.
  • The tool will delete itself once it finishes, if not delete it by yourself.

Remember to update your Antivirus programs and other security products regularly to avoid new threats that could infect your system. If you do not update your anti virus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.

You can use one of these sites to check if any updates are needed for your pc.
Secunia Software Inspector
F-secure Health Check

Please reply if you have any problems or questions

Uninstall ComboFix, AVG Free 9.0 problems

Unread postby crmd47 » November 20th, 2010, 2:38 pm

You just finished helping me clean up my system and I have another question/problem. I was following your instructions on uninstalling Combo/Fix but was not allowed due to AVG Free 9.0. I disabled AVG Free according to instructions previously given. Still unable to uninstall ComboFix. I tried and was also unable to uninstall AVG Free. I tried to update AVG Free 9.0 and it said I had to uninstall the old version, tried again, and again was unable to due to this error:
------
Local machine: installation failed
Installation:
Error: Action failed for registry key HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows: creating registry key....
Access is denied.
------
Could you help with this? Thanks. Here is another HJT log:

Hi, I had not closed your thread, so have merged these new questions into the old one.

We can manually uninstall Combo fix, but before we do lets sort out AVG. Do you wish to remove AVG for a different Antivirus? Or do you just wish to update.

Let me know please.

Removing AVG has been a pain lately, let’s use their removal tool to remove the current version.

AVG Removal Tool

Download and save AVG Removal Tool to your desktop

Run it to remove AVG. After this, please restart your computer.

To remove Combofix, please navigate to and delete the following folders

C:\Combofix
C:\Qoobox

Once you have removed the folders I would like you to manually reset System Restore to clean out all old restore Points.

To do this:-

Please create a new Restore Point
To to this
  • Click Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> System Restore
  • Choose the Create a restore point option then click on next
  • You can name your restore point something like All clean then select create
  • Once the Restore Point has been created you can hit close

Since we have created a New and Clean Restore Point, I would like you to remove all the Old Restore Points as some of these are infected and if used would re-infect your computer.

To do this
  • Click Start then click on My Computer Right Click Local Disk c:then select Properties
  • Click on Disk Cleanup a box shall open scanning you files. This could take a few minutes.
  • Once the scan is complete another window will appear. Select the More Options Tab
  • Under System Restore select clean up this will remove all System Restore points except for the most recent one. The one we created earlier.

Please reply to this thread if you have any problems :)

I was unable to uninstall AVG using the AVG Removal Tool. I went through the other steps anyway and I think I was able to remove ComboFix. I tried again to uninstall AVG and install the new version but was unable to do so. Heres a new HJT log......thanks.

AVG has a new removal tool so let’s try that.

Please download AVG Remover from HERE and save to your Desktop.

Double click the AVG Icon created on your desktop to run. Take note that computer will be restarted during this process so make sure that you have saved any open work.

Once the tool has run please post a new RSIT log.

Downloaded and ran new AVG Remover and it appears that AVG Free has been removed. Here is the new RSIT log. Is it okay to install the AVG Free updated version or do you have a better suggestion? Thanks.

I am not a huge AVG fan as it is a huge resource hog, but your system has enough RAM to support it, so if you are happy with it, by all means update to the latest version. Make sure you get an Antivirus up and running as a top priority. There is still a few leftovers that you can remove first.

Open Hijack This and select Do a System Scan Only place a check next to the below lines if still present

    O2 - BHO: WormRadar.com IESiteBlocker.NavFilter - {3CA2F312-6F6E-4B53-A66E-4E65E497C8C0} - (no file)
    O18 - Protocol: avgsecuritytoolbar - {F2DDE6B2-9684-4A55-86D4-E255E237B77C} - C:\Program Files\AVG\AVG9\Toolbar\IEToolbar.dll (file missing)
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: avgrsstarter - avgrsstx.dll (file missing)

Once selected close all windows except HJT an click on Fix Checked

Next, navigate to and delete the following folders, don't worry if they are not there.

C:\Documents and Settings\Chuck\Application Data\AVG9
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\avg9
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\AVG Security Toolbar
C:\Program Files\AVG

Once you have done what is above, REBOOT
