Can one person know everything about how a computer works and to know everthing about how windows works

Do you have to be a scientist with a white coat on..?
And what would that persons title be......or what is the highest ranking someone can be with microsoft

I am not sure if it is possible for one person to know all this, as their are so many different areas to know about a computer and the way windows works.

I was just talking to a guy who works in the local computer repair shop, and he reckons he only knows about 15% of all this, and he's been repairing them for years and he can't figure some things out, he always says they have a mind all of there own, and reckons some computers can actually think all by themselves....if only to confuse you. :)

Hello carl606,

From my limited knowledge, most computer scientists(with white coats) concentrate on the physical aspects of computing such as how transistors work, microchip design, creating new technologies for computers to user etc. They generally don't bother too much with the operating system other than taking into account how the OS, drivers, kernel etc will intereact with the physical hardware.

Like much of information technology even within the Windows/Microsoft category there is such a wide variety of different platforms that no one can really know everything about all of it. You will find some Jack of All Trades out there who know quite a bit about a variety of subjects but most people tend to specialise. With regards to 'high ranking' you can check out Microsoft's certifications Here. Although the certifications are mainly aimed at business support it can give you a reasonable idea of a persons knowledge, bearing in mind that they don't neccesarily test for real world experience.

Explaining to someone how a computer works can be fairly simple. Explaining why a computer is not working is not so simple.

@ haider

Yes haider that about sums it up i guess, i am not even going to ask why one person would not know how windows works, as it might lead to a very long thread.... :D

@ vino

Explaining why a computer is not working is not so simple

Youv'e got that one right vino
Explaining the simplest thing to the wife is very hard work, like just turning the computer off.
I would never in a million years try to explain why it doesn't work
