Infected with trojan JS/Dursg.A. Help Please !!!

Unread postby anvosm » August 14th, 2010, 5:20 pm

Hello

I am having a problem with my computer. My anti virus program has been alerting me the last 3 days because I have been infected with a trojan called JS/Dursg.A. It seems odd because if I would click on a site that was not legite my internet explorer and Microsoft would alert me.
I am being redirected sometimes to other sites.
Last year I had a similar problem which was corrected by Dakeyras, so amazing !!! 8)

I have posted my Hijackthis log in hopes that someone can help me again.

Thank you
Anne

Hello and welcome to MWR.

Please read the following information carefully.

IMPORTANT: Whatever repairs we make, are for fixing your computer problems only and by no means should be used on another computer.

To make cleaning this machine easier:

  • Continue to respond to this thread until I I tell you that the logs are clean!
  • Please DO NOT uninstall/install any programs unless asked to. It is more difficult when files/programs appear or disappear from the logs.
  • Please do not run any scans other than those requested and do not post any logs/reports unless specifically requested to do so.
  • Please follow all instructions in the order posted.
  • If you have any questions or do not understand instructions, please ask before continuing.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
  • Your security program(s) may give warnings for some of the tools I will ask you to use. Be assured, any links I give are safe.

Note: Please be aware as I am still in training all of my fixes/posts require prior checking by a MRU Teacher. So some delays may be inevitable, please be patient and I will reply again asap.

Please post an Uninstall list.

  • Open HijackThis.
  • Click on the Open the Misc Tools section button.
  • Look under System tools.
  • Click on the Open Uninstall Manager... button.
  • Click on the Save list... button.
  • It will prompt you to save. Save this log in a convenient location. By default it's named uninstall_list.txt.
  • Notepad will open. Please post this log in your next reply.

Thank you very much for your response to my computer problem, I have posted the log which you requested.

You had asked that I do not run any scans on my computer, but it does this automatically, if I turn off my antivirus my computer will constantly be advising me to turn it back on. Your advice would be appreciated.

Thank you
Anne

TFC (Temp File Cleaner):

  • Please download TFC to your desktop,
  • Save any unsaved work. TFC will close all open application windows.
  • Double-click TFC.exe to run the program.
  • Click the Start button in the bottom left of TFC
  • If prompted, click Yes to reboot.

Note: Save your work. TFC will automatically close any open programs, let it run uninterrupted. It should not take longer than a couple of minutes , and may only take a few seconds. You may not be prompted to reboot.

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware:

  • Please start Malwarebytes' Anti Malware (already installed).
  • Click the Update tab and then click the Check for Updates button to perform the update.
  • When the update is finished, click the Scanner tab, select Perform Quick Scan and then click the Scan button.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Check all items and click Remove Selected.
Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process, if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. please copy and paste the log into your next reply.
  • The log can also be found here:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\mbam-log-date (time).txt

random's system information tool (RSIT)

  • Download random's system information tool (RSIT) by random/random from HERE and save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT.
  • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
  • Once it has finished, two logs will open:
    • log.txt (<<will be maximized)
    • info.txt (<<will be minimized)
  • Post both of these logs in your next reply (Sometimes you have to make several post to get the logs posted.)

Continue to reply to this thread until I tell you that the logs are clean! Absence of symptoms does not necessarily mean a clean computer!

Goodevening

I have done the TFC (Temp File Cleaner) with no problems

then I tried to open the Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, each time I would click to open I would receive two messages

vbAccelerator Sgrid 11 Control
Run time error

Malwarebytes'Anti-Malware
Run time eror'440'
automation error

I tried several times with no luck, I cannot open the program.

Download/run Rkill:

Please download Rkill from one of the following links and save it to your Desktop:

One, Two,Three, Four or Five

  • Double click on Rkill.
  • A command window will open then disappear upon completion, this is normal.
  • A notepad window will open, please post the contents in your next reply
  • This log can also be found at C:\rkill.log
  • Please leave Rkill on the Desktop until otherwise advised.

Note: If your security software warns about Rkill, please ignore and allow the download/execution to continue.

Now try Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware again. If it fails to start, then please continue with the RSIT scan.

Re: Infected with trojan JS/Dursg.A. Help Please !!!

Unread postby vict0r » August 21st, 2010, 11:52 pm

Run rkill again, then do the following to see if it fixes the error when launching Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware:

  • Please copy and paste the following text in the Code box exactly as written into notepad (not wordpad or any other text editor):
    Code: Select all
    regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamext.dll"
    regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\ssubtmr6.dll"
    regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\vbalsgrid6.ocx"
  • Once you've done that click on File and select Save As...
  • In the Save dialogue box click on the drop down menu next to Save as type and select All Files
  • Name the file MBAM Fix.bat (the .bat extension is very important)
  • Save the file to your desktop and double click it to run it.
  • Click OK to each of the 3 dialog boxes that should show a success message for each file registered

You can now try to run Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware again.

Re: Infected with trojan JS/Dursg.A. Help Please !!!

Unread postby vict0r » August 23rd, 2010, 3:18 am

Hi

The log shows that a old database was used when the scan was done. Please update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and perform a quick scan again:

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware:

  • Start Malwarebytes' Anti Malware.

Re-run - RSIT (Random's System Information Tool)

You should still have this program on your desktop.
  1. Double click on RSIT.exe to run it.
  2. Please read the disclaimer... click on Continue.
RSIT will start running. When done... ONLY the "C:\RSIT\log.txt"...will be reproduced. (it will be maximized)
  3. Please post the contents of "log.txt" in your next reply.

How is the computer performing now? Please describe any signs of infection carefully.

Continue to reply to this thread until I tell you that the logs are clean! Absence of symptoms does not necessarily mean a clean computer!

Hello

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware: done
RSIT: done
both logs are pasted below

My computer seems to be running fine now, no more re-directs to other pages and before when I would be typing there would always be letters missing, now this seems ok too.
My computer is slow ( on a good day LOL ) because I am on a dial -up connection, I live in a rural area with no high speed.... isn't that a drag, in this day and age !!!
My anti virus program is not advising me of any threats now or items that have been
quarantined.

Thanks, will wait for further instructions.
Anne

Download ComboFix

A word of warning: Neither I nor sUBs are responsible for any damage you may cause to your machine by running ComboFix on your own. This tool is not a toy and not for everyday use.
ComboFix SHOULD NOT be used unless requested by a forum helper.

**IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop**

Please download ComboFix from one of the following links, do not run the tool yet:

Link1
Link2

Disable CA AntiVirus

Right click on CA icon in the system tray, near the clock (a shield).
Click on CA Anti-Virus > Snooze Anti-Virus Protection.
When prompted, enter in 30 and click on Snooze.

Disable CA Firewall

Right click on the CA icon in the system tray.
Click on CA Personal Firewall > Disable CA Personal Firewall
Please verify that the firewall is disabled: Do the above steps again and look for "Enable CA Personal Firewall." If this is the case, then you successfully disabled the CA Personal Firewall Guard.

Run ComboFix

Double click the ComboFix icon on the desktop to run the tool and click Yes to the disclaimer.

Please install the Recovery Console if prompted.

The Windows Recovery Console will allow you to boot into a special recovery (repair) mode. This allows us to more easily help you if your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware. It is a simple procedure that will only take a few moments of your time.

Please include the ComboFix log (C:\ComboFix.txt) in your next reply for further review.

Please enable CA Anti-Virus and Firewall after ComboFix is finished.

If Combofix fails to run:

If Combofix fails to run, please try the scan in safe mode. You might want to save these instructions with notepad or print them because there's no internet in safe mode:

  • Restart your computer
  • During startup, but before the Windows logo appears, the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
  • Choose your usual account.
  • When asked to proceed to safe mode, click Yes.
  • Run ComboFix from the desktop.
  • Combofix should reboot the computer automatically when finished. Reboot the computer manually (normal mode) if necessary.

To post:
  • SystemLook log
  • Combofix log
  • Did any problems occur while following the instructions?
