Please note that all instructions given are customised for this computer only, the tools used may cause damage if used on a computer with different infections.
If you think you have similar problems, please post a log in the HJT forum and wait for help.

Hi mnmleung and welcome..

I'm DFW and I am going to try and help you with your Malware problem. Please observe the following points and rules while we work:

  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for this issue on this machine!.
  • The clean up process can take time. Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine is clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
  • If you don't know, stop and ask! Don't keep going on.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
  • Refrain from running self fixes as this will hinder the malware removal process.
  • It may prove beneficial if you print of the following instructions or save them to notepad as I post them.
  • Your security programs may give warnings for some of the tools I will ask you to use. Be assured, any links I give are safe.
  • Some of the Logs we ask for can take some time to Analise, so please be patient.

Before we start:

Please be aware that removing Malware is a potentially hazardous undertaking. I will take care not to knowingly suggest courses of action that might damage your computer. However it is impossible for me to foresee all interactions that may happen between the software on your computer and those we'll use to clear you of infection, and I cannot guarantee the safety of your system. It is possible that we might encounter situations where the only recourse is to re-format and re-install your operating system, or to necessitate you taking your computer to a repair shop.

Because of this, I advise you to backup any personal files and folders before you start.

I will be back with instructions..

Sorry DFW, I did not realise that there were two logs from Malwarebyte's: one that I clicked save log (which I pasted above), and one after I cleaned up about 2 mins later, for which I did not click save.

Since I captured screen / text after every action last time, I have just copied and pasted from my document file. Here is the log taken about 2 mins after the first one above. Sorry to have wasted your time.

I will do the other steps and post here later.

Hi mnmleung

The only items that were found is a few infected emails, which are in Mozilla Thunderbird and Outlook.

What I need you to do is go through all of your emails in your Inbox box's, and any other saved boxes you may have.
Please delete any that you don't want/need/recognize. Odds are that the infected email will have an attachment or at least a link.
Therefore, do not open any attachments or click on any links.

Malwarebytes have removed a Trojan, so apart from that I can safely say you are clean, I have found nothing that could explain
the troubles you are having with outlook.

The only advice I can give you is to make sure that your Office installation is up to date on all hotfixs and updates, this can be done
by visiting Microsoft Update, and follow the prompts, this will update all Microsoft software installed on your system

http://www.update.microsoft.com/microso ... e&ln=en-us

MS update is not the same as Windows update, which only only updates windows.

If updating does not help, then as I am not an expert at this type of problem, I would suggest that you go to the forum below that specialise in more general computer problems.
They have people that know more about this sort of problem because it does not seem to be a malware problem.

What The Tech Forums,

http://forums.whatthetech.com/forums.html

It's free to join, then post a topic in the Office forum

It may be a good ideal to post them a link to this log

We Need to remove the tools we have used

Please download OTC and save it to desktop.

This tool will remove all the tools(and logs created) we used to clean your pc. Any left over merely delete yourself and empty the Recycle Bin.

  • Double-click OTC.exe.
  • Click the CleanUp! button.
  • Select Yes when the "Begin cleanup Process?" prompt appears.
  • If you are prompted to Reboot during the cleanup, select Yes.
  • The tool will delete itself once it finishes, if not delete it by yourself.

Note: If you receive a warning from your firewall or other security programs regarding OTC attempting to contact the internet, please allow it to do so.

You have programs installed that need to be updated

Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system.

Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update.

Updating Java:
Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) .
http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp
Scroll down to where it says "The J2SE Runtime Environment JRE 6 Update 21 allows end-users to run Java applications".
Click the "Download" button to the right.
Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
The page will refresh.
Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
Then from your desktop double-click on the download to install the newest version.

Mozilla Thunderbird (3.0.4) will need to be updated,(once you have found and deleted infected emails)

http://www.mozillamessaging.com/en-GB/thunderbird/

Also Mozilla Firefox (3.6.7)

http://www.mozilla-europe.org/en/firefox/

You need to also update Adobe Reader to 9.3.3,

Please go to the link below, and doenload the update, run the update by doulbe clicking on it,
you can delete the download once the update is complete.
http://ardownload.adobe.com/pub/adobe/r ... l_incr.msp

Extra Protection and Advice
I would what untill you have your Outlook problem sorted before installing programs from below

Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs.

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Using SpywareBlaster to protect your computer from Spyware and Malware

Winpatrol <= Download and install the free version of Winpatrol. a tutorial for this product is located here:
Using Winpatrol to protect your computer from malicious software

Microsoft isn't the only company whose products can contain security vulnerabilities, to check for other vulnerable programs running on your PC that are in need of an update,
you can use the Secunia Software Inspector - I suggest that you run it at least once a month

Read some information here how to prevent Malware.
