Hi gphilipp,

Welcome to the forum.

My nickname is deltalima and I will be helping you with your computer problems.

The logs can take some time to research, so please be patient with me.

Please be aware that removing Malware is a potentially hazardous undertaking. I will take care not to knowingly suggest courses of action that might damage your computer. However it is impossible for me to foresee all interactions that may happen between the software on your computer and those we'll use to clear you of infection, and I cannot guarantee the safety of your system. It is possible that we might encounter situations where the only recourse is to re-format and re-install your operating system, or to necessitate you taking your computer to a repair shop.

Please note the following:
  • I will working be on your Malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for this issue on this machine.
  • Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine appears to be clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
  • If after 3 days you have not responded to this topic, it will be closed, and you will need to start a new one.
  • It's often worth reading through these instructions and printing them for ease of reference.
  • If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to say or ask!! It's better to be sure and safe than sorry.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.

Please Note:
The programs I ask you to run need to be run in Administrator Mode by... Right clicking the program file and selecting: Run as Administrator.
Additionally, the built-in User Account Control (UAC) utility, if enabled, may prompt you for permission to run the program.
When prompted, please select: Allow. Reference: User Account Control (UAC) and Running as Administrator

Remove P2P Programs

  • I notice there are signs of one or more P2P (Peer to Peer) File Sharing Programs on your computer.

    FrostWire 4.13.5
    Vuze
    Vuze Toolbar

  • Please read the Guidelines for P2P Programs where we explain why it's not a good idea to have them.
  • Note: Even if you are using a "safe" P2P program, it is only the program that is safe. You will be sharing files from uncertified sources, and these are often infected. The bad guys use P2P filesharing as a major conduit to spread their wares.

  • Click on Start > All programs > Accessories > Run.
  • In the open text box copy/paste appwiz.cpl Then click Ok.
  • Uninstall the programs listed above (in red) and any other P2P you have installed NOW.
  • Take care when answering any questions posed by an uninstaller. Some questions may be worded to deceive you into keeping the program.

You have multiple antivirus programs installed.

Code: Select all
Microsoft Security Essentials
Norton Internet Security

This will cause slow booting and also slow operation. Please choose to keep one and remove the other.

I would also recommend that you remove Spybot - Search & Destroy we can install again later if required.

Download and run OTL
Download OTL by Old Timer and save it to your Desktop.
  • Right click on OTL.exe and select Run as Administrator.
  • Under Output, ensure that Minimal Output is selected.
  • Under Extra Registry section, select Use SafeList.
  • Click the Scan All Users checkbox.
  • Click on Run Scan at the top left hand corner.
  • When done, two Notepad files will open.
    • OTL.txt <-- Will be opened
    • Extras.txt <-- Will be minimized
  • Please post the contents of these 2 Notepad files in your next reply.

Please let me know if boot time has improved.

First let me start by thanking you for your assistance. Let me assure you this is truly appreciated.

I removed the programs requested by you. Also Spyboth and Control which, sorry but I am a layman cannot understand. This program should protect my PC not harm it :(

Any way I than ran OLT but the programs keeps hanging itself up (program does not respond anymore) I tried 4 times all with the same result. (Please see attached)

Again thanks a lot for your support.

All the best.

Hi gphilipp,

It will not harm the computer and I did say that we can reinstall it later but we need to check that it is not the cause of the slow boots.

Any way I than ran OLT but the programs keeps hanging

OK, try this alternative.

Download DDS

Please download DDS by sUBs from one of the links below and save it to your desktop:

Image
Download DDS and save it to your desktop

Link1
Link2

Please disable any anti-malware program that will block scripts from running before running DDS.

  • Right-Click on dds.scr And select " Run as administrator "... and a command window will appear. This is normal.
  • Shortly after two logs will appear:
    • DDS.txt
    • Attach.txt
  • A window will open instructing you save & post the logs
  • Save the logs to a convenient place such as your desktop
  • Copy the contents of both logs & post in your next reply

Please also let me know how long the computer is now taking to boot.

Hi gphilipp,

Please paste any further logs into the thread instead of attaching them.

Microsoft Security Essentials
Norton Internet Security

I still see two Antivius programs installed One needs to be removed.

Remove PunkBuster

  • Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  • In Control Panel, double-click Add or Remove Programs.
  • In Add or Remove Programs,
    highlight PunkBuster Services
    click Remove
  • Close the Add or Remove Programs and the Control Panel windows.

Delete bad services
Please copy (Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the following text in the quote to Notepad. Save it as "All Files" and name it FixServices.bat Please save it on your desktop.

@echo off
sc stop ASKService
sc config ASKService start= disabled
sc delete ASKService
sc stop ASKUpgrade
sc config ASKUpgrade start= disabled
sc delete ASKUpgrade
exit

Double click FixServices.bat. A window will open and close. This is normal.

Please re-open HijackThis and select Scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below (if present):

O2 - BHO: AskBar BHO - {201f27d4-3704-41d6-89c1-aa35e39143ed} - C:\Program Files\AskBarDis\bar\bin\askBar.dll
O3 - Toolbar: Ask Toolbar - {3041d03e-fd4b-44e0-b742-2d9b88305f98} - C:\Program Files\AskBarDis\bar\bin\askBar.dll

Now close all other open windows and then click on Fix Checked. Close HijackThis.

Now reboot the computer.

Now you need to show all files and folders

  • Click Start.
  • Open My Computer.
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  • Select the View Tab.
  • Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
  • Uncheck Hide file extensions for known file types* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
  • Click Apply to confirm.
  • Click OK

Using Windows Explorer (to get there right-click your Start button and go to Explore), please delete these folders (if present):

C:\Program Files\AskBarDis

Please also let me know how long the computer is now taking to boot.

Hi gphilipp,

Security Check

  • Download Security Check by screen317 from:
  • Save it to your Desktop.
  • Double click SecurityCheck.exe and follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
  • A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt
  • Please post the contents of that document.

Hi gphilipp,

Update Java Runtime
You are using an old version of Java. Sun's Java is sometimes updated in order to eliminate the exploitation of vulnerabilities in an existing version. For this reason, it's extremely important that you keep the program up to date, & also remove the older more vulnerable versions from your system. The most current version of Sun Java is: Java Runtime Environment Version 6 Update 21.
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Here
  • Scroll down to where it says "JDK 6 Update 21 (JDK or JRE)"
  • Click the orange Download JRE button to the right
  • Select the Windows platform from the dropdown menu
  • Read the License Agreement and then check the box that says: "I agree to the Java SE Runtime Environment 6 with JavaFX License Agreement". Click on Continue. The page will refresh
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation & save the file to your desktop
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser
  • Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel, double-click on Add/Remove Programs & remove all older versions of Java
  • Check (highlight) any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE or Java(TM) 6) in the name
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u21-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version

You should Download and Install the newest version of Adobe Reader for reading pdf files, due to the vulnerabilities in earlier versions.
All versions numbered lower than 9.3 are vulnerable.
  • Go HERE, UNCHECK any Free Add-Ons, and click Download to install the latest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader.
  • After it completes the Installation, close the Download Manager.

Please visit the Microsoft Update site and run all updates and make sure Internet Explorer is updated to version 8.

Please let me know how long the boot time is now.

Hi gphilipp,

However (re)boot time is still around 4 minutes

After I thorough check, there are no signs of active malware on the computer. A boot time of 4 minutes is not unreasonable due to the various programs that run at startup (e.g. the Windows Update check).

There are several lines in the HijackThis log that could be removed to give a slight improvement in boot time, although I would recommend that you keep them unless you really need to improve boot times.

Security Updates for Windows, Internet Explorer & Microsoft Office
Whenever a security problem in its software is found, Microsoft will usually create a patch so that after the patch is installed, attackers can't use the vulnerability to install malicious software on your PC. Keeping up with these patches will help to prevent malicious software being installed on your PC. Ensure you are registered for Windows updates via Start > right-click on My Computer > Properties > Automatic Updates tab or visit the Microsoft Update site on a regular basis.
