Those are the 2 files, yes.

It seems to me SUPERAntiSpyware is a good program, however I don't use it myself. You can install it again after the fix if you want to. The free Malwarebytes Anti Malware has got no resident protection so there won't be any conflicts.

TDSS

TDSSKiller removed the Backdoor.Tidserv Backdoor/Trojan/Rootkit. Due to the functionality of this particular malware, it's impossible to tell what may have been done when the system was compromised.

Therefore it may be prudent to:

  1. Call all your banks, financial institutions, credit card companies and inform them that you may be a victim of identity theft and put a watch on your accounts.
  2. Change all your passwords (ISP login password, your email address(es) passwords, financial accounts, PayPal, eBay, Amazon, online groups and forums and any other online activities you carry out which require a username and password)

How do I respond to a possible identity theft and how do I prevent it

Set Options in CCleaner and run Cleaning Scan:

Start the already installed CCleaner, click Startmenu > Programs > CCleaner > CCleaner (Do not use the Registry block to clean anything with this program. It is for experts only and it is risky).

  • Select Cleaner Settings.
Check Internet Explorer, Windows Explorer, and System so that all items are checked. In the Advanced section, have a check only on Old PreFetch Data.
  • Set Cookie Retention.
Click on the Options block on the left, then choose Cookies.
Under the Cookies to delete pane, highlight any cookies you would like to retain permanently (those companies or sites with which you regularly visit or do business), and click the right arrow > to move them to the Cookies to keep pane.
  • Run Cleaning Scan. Click on the Cleaner block on the left. Choose the Windows tab.
Click the Run Cleaner button. This process could take a while. When CCleaner shows how much has been removed, cleaning is finished.

Fix HijackThis entries

Start HijackThis

  • If you are on the Main Menu page... Click "Do a system scan only"
  • If you are on the "scan & fix stuff" page... Press the Scan...button.
  • When the scan finishes...Place a check mark next to the following entries (if they are still present)
  • Note: Only check those items listed below.
    Code: Select all
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://home.peoplepc.com/search
    O2 - BHO: EarthLink BHO Guard - {00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000002} - C:\Program Files\PeoplePC\Toolbar\ScamGrd.dll

  • After checking these items... CLOSE ALL open windows except HijackThis.
  • Click the Fix Checked ...button...to remove the entries you checked.
  • Choose YES...when prompted to fix the selected items.
  • Once it has fixed them, close HijackThis.

Delete Files - Folders

  • Right click on the Start...button.
  • Select Explore...from the menu.
  • Navigate to and find the following folder and delete it.

    C:\Program Files\PeoplePC

  • If you have any problem deleting the folder, right click the it and choose Properties to see if it's read-only. Uncheck the read-only box, click Apply and OK. Then retry Delete.

SystemLook

    C:\Documents and Settings\Editor\Application Data\Uniblue /s
    :filefind
    klmdb.sys

  • Click the Look button to start the scan.
  • When finished, a notepad window will open with the results of the scan. Please post this log in your next reply.
The log can also be found as a text document on your Desktop named SystemLook.txt

Re-run - RSIT (Random's System Information Tool)
  • Double click on RSIT.exe to run it.
  • Please read the disclaimer... click on Continue.
RSIT will start running. When done... the "C:\RSIT\log.txt"...will be reproduced. (it will be maximized)
  • Please post the "log.txt", file contents in your next reply.

Kaspersky Online Scan

  • Please go to the Kaspersky website and perform an online antivirus scan.
  • Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
  • It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run.
  • When the downloads have finished, click on Settings.
  • Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button:
    • Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
    • Archives
    • E-mail databases
  • Click on My Computer under Scan. The scan might take several hours..
  • Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.
  • You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As....
  • Save this report to a convenient place. Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt) before clicking on the Save button.
  • Please post this log in your next reply.

Please refer to this online tutorial if you want further information.

Checklist:
  • The SystemLook log.
  • The RSIT log
  • The Kaspersky log

You can post the logs in separate replies as soon as you get them.

Continue to reply to this thread until I tell you that the logs are clean! Absence of symptoms does not necessarily mean a clean computer!

HELP:-(
I ran the Kaspersky and followed your directions but there were 0 infections out of over 60,000 items scanned (3hours time) and then I tried to SAVE it following instructions, changed to Text file, there is NOTHING there, it is just an empty box!!!! I am running another scan but fear the same thing is going to happen ...
Please advise as to what I may have done wrong!!!
Thanks,

As long as it says 0 infections, this would be normal.

Please allow me time to prepare the next set of instructions.

Hi

I'm sorry about the delay. Here is the next set of instructions:

Back Up registry with ERUNT

  • Please use the following link and download ERUNT to your desktop. HERE
  • Click on the erunt-setup.exe
  • Follow the prompts to install ERUNT
  • Choose language
  • A set up window will pop up. It will ask: Create ERUNT entry in to the Start up folder, answer NO

    Image
  • Backup your registry to the default location

Note: To restore your registry (if needed), go to the folder and start ERDNT.exe

Registry fix.

  • Please copy the contents including any blank lines of the Code Box below to Notepad, Do not include the word CODE:

    Code: Select all
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SafeBoot\Minimal\klmdb.sys]

    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SafeBoot\network\klmdb.sys]

  • Make sure there are NO blank lines before Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00.
  • Make sure there are 1 blank line at the end of the file.
  • Name the file fix.reg
  • Change the Save as Type to All Files
  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Double-click on the fix.reg file, and click Yes when prompted to merge.

Delete Service

  • Click Start > Run and paste the following line into the run box:
    sc delete McComponentHostService
  • Then hit enter on your keyboard or click OK
  • A command window might appear briefly.

Delete Folders

You can delete these folders if you want to:

  • Right click on the Start...button.
  • Select Explore...from the menu.
  • Navigate to and find the following folders and delete them.

    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\STOPzilla!
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\SITEguard
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\iS3
    C:\Documents and Settings\Editor\Application Data\Uniblue

  • If you have any problem deleting a folder, right click the it and choose Properties to see if it's read-only. Uncheck the read-only box, click Apply and OK. Then retry Delete.

Re-run - RSIT (Random's System Information Tool)
  • Double click on RSIT.exe to run it.
  • Please read the disclaimer... click on Continue.
RSIT will start running. When done... the "C:\RSIT\log.txt"...will be reproduced. (it will be maximized)
  • Please post the "log.txt", file contents in your next reply.

Registry Cleaners + "Tweak" Tools

Uniblue RegistryBooster (seems to be uninstalled)

I don't personally recommend the use of ANY Registry Cleaners or "Tweak" Tools. They are marketed as ways to make your machine run faster and more efficiently ...... Some will actually achieve this .... IF you know how to use them correctly.
Removing "Orphaned/Old/Obsolete" registry entries is fine ..... as long as they actually are "Orphaned/Old/Obsolete", it won't speed up your machine though.
Stopping services & setting policies can speed up your machine ..... as long as you stop & set the right ones, & even then it's debatable if you will notice the improvement.

Remove the wrong registry entry, or stop the wrong service, & not only can you slow your machine .... you could kill it !

To use a Registry Cleaner or "Tweak" tool to its full advantage, you really need to know what it is they are doing & what else the changes may affect.
In short, if you know how to use them safely ----- you don't actually need them.

And for more good information see what Miekiemoes has to say >> http://miekiemoes.blogspot.com/2008/02/ ... ng_13.html

When ready please post the following:
  • Did any problems occur when following the instructions?
  • The RSIT log
  • Give me an update of the performance of your computer. Are you experiencing any problems?
