Hi Máirín,

I've had a look over your log and there are one or two things in there that concern me.

Can you press Control Alt Delete to enter the Process Manager and End Task on the following:

MsgPlus.exe

Exit the Task Manager when finished.

Do you need or use the Real toolbar? It's identified by these lines in your log:

O2 - BHO: REALBAR - {4E7BD74F-2B8D-469E-C0FF-FD60B590A87D} - C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\Real\Toolbar\realbar.dll
O3 - Toolbar: REALBAR - {4E7BD74F-2B8D-469E-C0FF-FD60B590A87D} - C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\Real\Toolbar\realbar.dll

If not, they can be fixed in HijackThis (please see instructions below)

Run HijackThis and Scan again. Check off the following items:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MessengerPlus3] "C:\Temp\MsgPlus.exe"
O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {CD67F990-D8E9-11d2-98FE-00C0F0318AFE} - (no file)
O16 - DPF: {56336BCB-3D8A-11D6-A00B-0050DA18DE71} - http://software-dl.real.com/0102b7469a2 ... xIE601.cab
O18 - Protocol: vskype - (no CLSID) - (no file)

Does this look like it pertains to your ISP? If not, then also fix this line here:

O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{D64B9E41-1540-4A44-B595-DEB97105D7A3}: NameServer = 194.134.5.5 194.134.0.97

You could also place a check against those Real Player ones ones as well - it's the Real Player toolbar, and could be spying on you!

Once you've checked those items off, click on Fix Checked and OK / Yes to any extra prompts you might get about removing BHOs and/or toolbars. Exit HijackThis and reboot into Safe Mode by tapping the F8 key during the boot sequence and selecting Safe Mode from the menu.

Using Windows Explorer, go to the C:\Temp folder and delete everything in it. Do not delete the folder itself though!

Reboot back into normal mode.

When you installed Messenger Plus!, do you remember unchecking the box to install the sponsor software? If not, then please do this as well:

1. Uninstall MessengerPlus! using Add/Remove Programs. Reboot.
2. Run a full scan with Spybot Search and Destroy with updated definitions. Reboot.
3. Reinstall MessengerPlus!, taking care to NOT install the sponsor software.

Post back a fresh HijackThis log.

Okay so I have done most of what you said, thought he vskype seems to have returned on the list.

O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{D64B9E41-1540-4A44-B595-DEB97105D7A3}: NameServer = 194.134.5.5 194.134.0.97
That seems to be part of my emailsystem  sorry I have no idea what ISP means

Are the files you mentioned really bad or are they 'just monitoring' what I do?

Here is the list again

Máirín,

That's must better. That O9 entry appears to be unremovable using HijackThis, but it's not malicious so we'll leave it be.

Any file that "just monitors" what you do has got to be bad. For example, would you want any file "just monitoring" while you carry out an online banking exercise?

I really didn't like the look of that program that pretended to be MessengerPlus running from the Temporary folder. There were no results for it in Googleland, either.

One final step that's worth doing. Can you download Ccleaner and install it onto your system. Run it, and click on Run Cleaner. It may take a couple of minutes to run. It will clear out all your temporary Internet files, including your cookies (so all your forum logins etc. will be deleted).

After that I'd say you're good to go!

I've noticed that you fixed the O17 line ....

ISP stands for Internet Service Provider. It's the company you use to connect to the Internet with.

If that line pertains to your e-mail, then you may need to check that your e-mail is still working. I said to fix it if you didn't recognise it.

You can restore it from the HijackThis backups if need be. Run HijackThis and click on Config. Then click on Backups. Select the one required and click on Restore. Exit HJT and reboot.

Mmmm I ran another hitmanpro scan before I did the log again. I think that what I thought was from my provider wasn't and it was deleted. I didn't do anything!!! My email still works, so that should be fine.

Thanks also for the CCleaner. I couldn't believe how much it still found. I never realised all the loggs that are made. I thought I kept everything reasonably clean, tyding my register and temp folder on a regular basis as well as using hitman pro....

Thanks so much for all your help!!!!
