Hi everyone..

Somehow I've managed to be hijacked by about:blank and it's not going away.I've downloaded AVG anti virus but it doesn't seem to have worked and instead is annoying me even more by reporting viruses/trojans all the time which then it claims to have got rid off till I get the same message of the same virus(?) attacking my PC again.Sure will appreciate your help thanks Arjun

Here's the logfile as requested.. :?

Hello

First of all I need you to download some programs for use later.

Download this file and unzip it to your desktop

Download About:Buster from here. Once it is downloaded extract it to c:\aboutbuster and check for updates. Do NOT use it yet

Download CWShredder from here, install it, check for updates but again, don't use it yet.

Download and install Ewido Security Suite Trial from here. Run and update the program but do not scan with it yet.

Ensure hidden files and folders are set to show;

  • Click Start.
  • Open My Computer.
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  • Select the View Tab.
  • Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
  • Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
  • Click Yes to confirm.
  • Click OK.

Next, go to Start->Run and type "Services.msc" (without quotes) then hit Ok

Scroll down and find the service called Network Security Service. When you find it, double-click on it. In the next window that opens, click the Stop button, then click on properties and under the General Tab, change the Startup Type to Disabled. Now hit Apply and then Ok and close any open windows.

Please disconnect from the Internet and unplug your modem for the duration of this fix You may want to print the rest of these instructions.

Reboot your computer into Safe Mode by tapping F8 while booting up and continue for the rest of the fix in SAFE MODE

While in safe mode, double click on the HSfix.reg file you downloaded at the beginning. Grant it permission to add the registry items.

Then Open cwshredder that you downloaded in the first step. Close all browser windows and click on the fix/next button.

Bring up task manager Ctrl-Alt-Del and end these processes if they are present

appth32.exe
w?wexec.exe
crbz.exe

Now find and delete these files, if you can't find one then don't worry.. just move on to the next one.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\hyqln.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\sdkvx32.dll
C:\WINDOWS\syslh.dll
C:\WINDOWS\appok.exe
C:\WINDOWS\appth32.exe
c:\program files\180solutions <--- folder
C:\WINDOWS\crbz.exe

Now run hijackthis and click the scan button, when it has finished scanning put a check against the following and click 'fix checked'

The following step is important as you may have several malware files in your temp directories.

Then browse to the C:\documents and settings\Your User Name (repeat for all other user names in documents and settings)\local settings\temp folder and delete all files and folders in it. Then browse to the C:\Window\Temp folder and delete all files and folders in it. Then in internet explore click tools>internet Options>General. Click on Delete Files make sure you get all offline content as well.

Now navigate to the c:\aboutbuster directory and double-click on AboutBuster.exe. Click Begin Removal to allow AboutBuster to scan. When it has finished, AboutBuster will open a 'Scan Completed' window. Click OK. Another information window will open. Click on Exit. AboutBuster will inform you that a log has been created. Click OK. I will need you to post that log later.

Run Ewido and do a full System Scan with it. Let it clean anything it finds. Save the report it creates.

Now reboot, and run hijackthis again and post a fresh log along with the about buster log and the Ewido log. :)

You didn't post the Ewido log or the About Buster log, I would like to see them if you still have them please.

Run hijackthis and click the scan button, when it has finished scanning then put a tick against the following, close all other browsers and windows and click 'fix checked'

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7BB18BD9-D478-E64C-3956-822906521F82} - (no file)

Then close hijackthis.

Download this file to your desktop.
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/DelDomains.inf

Right-click on the deldomains.inf file and select 'Install'

Once it is finished your Zones should be reset.

Note, if you use SpywareBlaster and/or IE/Spyads, it will be necessary to re-install the protection both afford. For SpywareBlaster, run the program and re-protect all items. For IE/Spyads, run the batch file and reinstall the protection.

Now we need to see if we need to restore some deleted files:
Please check for the following files using the Windows Search Engine:

control.exe
rundll32.exe
wmplayer.exe
msconfig.exe
notepad.exe
shell.dll
SDHelper.dll

If any are missing or not working properly then you can download new copies from Merijn's Files and follow the instructions at that site to installthem where they belong for your OS.

Download the Hoster from here. Press "Restore Original Hosts" and press "OK". Exit Program. This will restore the original deleted Hosts file.
This infection often deletes some system files that need to be replaced. The most frequent one it deletes is shell.dll in Win2K or XP. In XP there are two copies of this file, one in Windows (WINNT) and one in Windows\System32. It does not delete the one in Windows\System so it does not affect Win9x/ME. If you find it missing, please copy the shell.dll from c:\windows\system32\dllcache into both \Windows (WINNT) and Windows\System32 .
The other system file which is most frequently deleted is control.exe. Please check to make sure that you have this file and it is the correct size. If not Please check for the existence of this file by going to to Merijn's Files and examine where the file should be for your operating system. If the file is missing then download the appropriate file and place it in the proper place according to the information at this website. The control.exe is more often deleted in Win9x/ME.
If you have Spybot S&D installed you will also need to replace one file. Go to Merijn's Files (sdhelper) and download SDHelper.dll. Copy the file to the folder containing your Spybot S&D program (normally C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy). Then click Start > Run > regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy\SDHelper.dll" and press the OK button

Run an online antivirus scan at:

Trend Micro

Reboot

Finally, scan again with HijackThis once more and post your logfile just to make sure that there is nothing left to fix and let me know if you are still having problems
