Trojan Dropper --Clean?

Unread postby emoulding » April 3rd, 2010, 3:45 pm

Hi, I had help here recently for my husband's and my computers, and I've been installing some security software on my parents' computers (Malwarebytes', ERUNT, WinPatrol, etc.). I ran full scans and found a Trojan.Dropper on one computer. I wanted to confirm that I've gotten everything. HijackThis logs and the Malwarebytes' log with the Trojan.Dropper follow. Recent Malwarebytes' and AVG scans have come up clean (except tracking cookies).

The other computer came up clean except one listing which was a false positive (confirmed on Malwarebytes' forums).

Thanks.

Please! If you need more time to do all the instructions, let me know before 72hours is done. Otherwise, your thread will be closed
***Note : Windows Vista require user to right click > Run as Administrator to use the tools.

First,
Important.
WEATHERBUG
WeatherBug is a system tray icon that offers weather information and includes built-in ads. WeatherBug is controlled by AWS Convergence Technologies (weatherbugmedia.com). There is some controversy over whether WeatherBug should be targeted by anti-parasite software. AWS strongly deny their software is 'spyware', and by the definition used here, it is not, as it does not leak information back to its controlling servers. However, WeatherBug has in the past been silently installed by the FavoriteMan parasite and Freeze.com screensavers, and more recently has been bundled by software such as AIM and Blubster. This makes it 'unsolicited', and since it is installed to raise money for its creators through the built-in ads it is certainly 'commercial'. So it does meet the definition for 'parasite': unsolicited commercial software. It is nonetheless listed as a borderline case because it is not overtly harmful and many people do install it deliberately. WeatherBug bundles the MySearch parasite in its standalone distribution and has in the past, installed Gator and SVAPlayer.

I recommend that you uninstall WeatherBug and choose one of these alternatives:

Please uninstall WeatherBug now.

Good!
Your system now is clean.

Additional Information :

SpywareBlaster.
  • SpywareBlaster help your Internet Explorer more strong as it will help to block known malicious ActiveX
  • A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found HERE

Antivirus.
  • Antivirus help you to give the maximum protection for the system.
  • You are advice to have only ONE antivirus running on the system.
  • Please keep it update regurlarly.

Windows/Program Update.
Please make sure to have your Windows Automatic Update turn ON or you can do it manually.
Microsoft releases patches for Windows and Office products regularly to patch up Windows and Office products loopholes and fix any bugs found. Install the updates immediately if they are found.
To update Windows
  • Go to Start > All Programs > Windows Update
To update Office
  • Open up any Office program.
  • Go to Help > Check for Updates

You always can refer at both website to check either any updates are needed for your system.

Firewall
If you are using the built-in Windows XP firewall it is not recommended as it does not block outgoing connections. This means that any malware on your computer is free to phone home for more instructions. Simply put Windows XP contains a mediocre firewall. This firewall is NO replacement for a dedicated software solution. Remember to use only one firewall at the same time.

Firewalls protect against hackers and malicious intruders.

I would recommend to install a free firewall for personal use from one of these excellent vendors. Choice is yours:

Information.

Safe surfing! :)
