Reboot to Safe mode
Restart your computer and immediately begin tapping the F8 key on your keyboard.
If done right a Windows Advanced Options menu will appear.
Select the Safe Mode option and press Enter

Please disable Microsoft Antispyware, as it may hinder the removal of some entries. You can re-enable it after you're clean.

Right click on the Microsoft AntiSpyware icon (looks like a target) and click on :
Security Agents Status (Enabled)
Disable Real-time Protection

To re enable it, you follow the same steps but click on Enable Real-time Protection

Delete the files in Microsoft AntiSpyware\Quarantine folder

Delete the files in Norton AntiVirus\Quarantine folder

Run HijackThis
Scan and when it finishes, put a check mark only next to these following items : (if present)

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = c:\secure32.html
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar,LinksFolderName =
R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

O20 - Winlogon Notify: Dynamic Directory - C:\WINDOWS\system32\sdfolder.dll (file missing)

Close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open
Click Fix Checked

Open Windows Explorer, locate and Delete the following folders or files in BOLD : (if present)

C:\WINDOWS\system32\sdfolder.dll

Empty your Recycle Bin

Reboot to Normal Mode

**Turn off System Restore**
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer
Click Properties
Click the System Restore tab.
Check "Turn off System Restore"
Click Apply, then click OK and Reboot

**Turn ON System Restore**
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer
Click Properties
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check "Turn off System Restore"
Click Apply, then click OK and Reboot

Run Kaspersky WebScanner again

Post a fresh HijackThis log and the Kaspersky Scan log here

Please note: The free Kaspersky On-line Scanner does not provide comprehensive protection and cannot prevent future infections. It only detects malware that has already penetrated your storage devices. We strongly recommend that you use a fully-functional antivirus solution to protect your computer at all times.

How is your system running now ??

Your log is CLEAN !!

Here are a few tools that I recommend for protecting your system and keeping your system clean !!

Real Time Prevention
SpywareBlaster© by Javacool Software
Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests.
Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox.
Restrict the actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer.
Consumes no system resources.

Download, run, check for updates, download updates, select all, protect against checked. All done. Check for updates every couple of weeks. If you have any errors running the program like a missing file see the link at the bottom of the javacool page
IESpyad© by EHowes : This will add several hundred Restricted Sites to the Restricted Site Zone in IE.

File Cleaners (temp, prefetch, cookie, etc)
2000/XP Only
ATF (Atribune Temp File) Cleaner© by Atribune
All Windows
CCleaner© by CCleaner.com

Spyware Scanners:
Ad-aware SE© by Lavasoft Scans your system for spyware and other threats
a² Scanner© by Emsi Software : Scans for Malware and Trojans on your system.

Good Free Antivirus Programs:
AVG© by Grisoft
AntiVir© by H+BEDV Datentechnik GmbH
Avast© by ALWIL Software
NOTE:Remember always have just 1 antivirus program running at a time. Having more than one running causes a conflict between the programs !! You can use one as a backup to run manually

Windows Update:
It's also very important to keep your system up to date to avoid unnecessary security risks
Windows Update

Firewalls:
If you have an "always on " internet connection, such as DSL or Cable, I recommend a Firewall.
A firewall will make your pc invisible to the outside world and will filter the outgoing and incoming traffic on your pc.
For a good idea of how vulnerable your system(s) are go to GRC
Scroll down to "Shields Up" Click on "Proceed" Then click on "Common Ports"to scan your ports.
Very good Firewalls :
ZoneAlarm Firewall© by Zone Labs
Sunbelt Kerio Personal Firewall© by Sunbelt

These next steps are optional, but will provide the greatest protection
Use ANY browser besides Internet Explorer, almost every exploit is crafted to take advantage of an IE weakness
Alternative Browsers:
FireFox© by Mozilla
Opera© by Opera Software ASA

Java Runtime Environment© Sun Microsystems. It's much more secure than Microsoft's Java Virtual Machine .

Always keep your Antivirus & Spyware Removal Tools current with the latest definitions and updates !!

Using these tools and keeping them updated will reduce the risk of future infections!!

Do you have any questions??

Hi Linkmaster. Thanks so much for you help. The system seems to be just fine now, Norton’s says couple of files missing need to reinstall, so I will do this..This whole problem was my fault, was down loading a file from the internet and was asked to except Active X and I did, like an idiot not thinking and then it was too late.
I have Notons installed also Ad-aware both are kept up to date I also keep windows up to date. Downloaded MS Anti-spy to try rid myself of this problem..
I know now don’t except Active X unless you know where is coming from.
Thanks again Linkmaster all the best for the future.. Lewis

Hi luigi

Whether or not you feel that it was your fault you were infected, because you accepted the activeX... the fact of the matter is that you have been the victim of a scam.. and agressive campaign to scare you into buying a useless program. I see you are from the UK... please consider adding your voice to my campaign.

Thank you.
