Ok, I did the latest stuff you suggested and deleted the various starting programs after running the HJT scan. Ran the McAfee scan again and unfortunately it still locked up my computer. I had minimized the scan pane and I couldn't even get the pane open again to see at what % the scan had stalled. I'm assuming that it stalled in the same location though. It seems that something is happening that is overloading the RAM or something. The "in use" type of light, showing the hard drive working, seems to be on solid when the computer is stalled. Kind of like it's trying to do something but has run out of processor capacity to do it.
Drive D: shows as my DVD/RW drive when I open "My Computer." Is it possible for that to have bad sectors, especially when there's no CD/DVD in it? That seems weird. I thought bad sectors were only related to hard drives.
As far as other problems go, I have had more than one time (infrequently) when I have gotten a "blue screen" stop/warning from my computer. It suggests that there is a driver issue when it happens, but I have never noticed any difference in the way my computer runs or problems with any drivers.
