Infected I Believe

The name of the virus I found was a trojan, not sure which one. The name of the program that kept infiltrating my internet was antivirus soft. I ran several scans and none of them got trid of the program. While I was at work my neice restored the computer to factory settings. I know from past experiences that doesn't mean the virus is gone it is just in "hiding". I would appreciate any help you all can give me on this matter.

Make an uninstall list using HijackThis
To access the Uninstall Manager you would do the following:

• Start HijackThis
• Click on the Misc Tools button
• Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.
• Click on the Save list... button and specify where you would like to save this file. When you press Save button a notepad will open with the contents of that file. Save the file to your desktop.

Have you, or are you experiencing any issues or problems since the computer was restored to factory setting?

You are running COMODO Internet Security, I gather this includes antivirus?

If this is the case then you have more than one Anti-virus programs running in memory at once:

Anti-virus programs take up an enormous amount of your computer's resources when they are actively scanning your computer. Having two anti-virus programs running at the same time can cause your computer to run very slow, become unstable and even, in rare cases, crash. Please remove one of them NOW.

no problems since the factory restore and when I downloaded comodo I clicked firewall only so I don't think the anti virus is included. Secondly no problems since the system restore.

Secondly no problems since the system restore.

Looks good and I would say you would be fine. I will get you to run an online scan to put your mind at ease. Before we do that, do the following.


Open Hijack This (remember to right click and run as administrator) and select Do a System Scan Only place a check next to the below lines if still present

Once selected close all windows except HJT an click on Fix Checked

You should Download and Install the newest version of Adobe Reader for reading pdf files, due to the vulnerabilities in earlier versions.
All versions numbered lower than 9.2 are vulnerable.

• Go HERE and click on AdbeRdr920_en_US.exe to download the latest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader.
• Save this file to your desktop and run it to install the latest version of Adobe Reader.

Your have the up to date Java on board so you can uninstall the old one:-

Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment 6 Update 1

Kaspersky Online Scan
Do an online scan with >Kaspersky Online Scanner<

• Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button
• It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run
• When the downloads have finished, click on Settings
• Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button:
  Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
  Archives
  Mail databases
• Click on My Computer under Scan
• Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report
• You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As...
• Save this report to a convenient place. Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt) before clicking on the Save button
