Hello and welcome to Malware Removal Forums

IMPORTANT

Whatever repairs we make, are for fixing your computer problems only and by no means should be used on another computer.
To make cleaning this machine easier:-
  • Continue to respond to this thread until I give you the All Clean!
  • Please DO NOT uninstall/install any programs unless asked to. It is more difficult when files/programs appear or disappear from the logs.
  • Please do not run any scans other than those requested and do not post any logs/reports unless specifically requested to do so.
  • Please follow all instructions in the order posted.
  • If you have any questions or do not understand instructions, please ask before continuing.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.

Question Do you use this computer for some kind of business?

Download and Run: RSIT

  • Download random's system information tool (RSIT) by random/random from here and save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT.
  • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
  • Once it has finished, two logs will open. Please post the contents of both log.txt (<<will be maximized) and info.txt (<<will be minimized)

GMER Rootkit Scanner
Download GMER Rootkit Scanner from here.
  • Double click the .exe file. If asked to allow gmer.sys driver to load, please consent
  • If it gives you a warning about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run scan...click on NO

    Image
Click the image to enlarge it
  • In the right panel, you will see several boxes that have been checked. Uncheck the following ...
    • Sections
    • IAT/EAT
    • Drives/Partition other than Systemdrive (typically C:\)
    • Show All (don't miss this one)
  • Then click the Scan button & wait for it to finish
  • Once done click on the [Save..] button, and in the File name area, type in "Gmer.txt" or it will save as a .log file
  • Save it where you can easily find it, such as your desktop, and post it in reply
**Caution**
Rootkit scans often produce false positives. Do NOT take any action on any "<--- ROOKIT" entries

Please reply with:-
  • Abswer to question
  • RSIT logs ( info.txt and log.txt)
  • GMER Log

Thanks for your help, really appreciated. Before you replied though, I did make changes, so I'll tell you what I did. I deleted ESET virus protection & purchased & installed Norton internet security 2010. Its initial scan deleted or cleaned up tracking cookies, but did not help with the main problem redirecting virus.
I'll start following your instructions, & keep checking for more, but with the xmas holiday, I will be out of town from the 26th to the 4th, so please don't assume I'm fixed till after vacation is over.
Again, thanks

I need an answer to the initial question regarding if this computer is used for business? It is quite important as tools we use can compromise certain programs installed? We also have rules that apply to business machines.

Since you are unavailable until the 4th it might be better to wait until you are back and start a new thread as that is a good 10 days away and I am reluctant to have an open topic waiting that long. I hope you have a great Christmas Holiday :flower:

As I mentioned we do have rules that do not allow us to work on any kind of business-related computers.

In General, we do not help in cleaning business or corporate computers. There may be restrictions and modifications installed on such machines that could be damaged or altered by the actions we take to remove Malware. There may also be legal issues regarding any loss of business data that we do not wish to deal with.

The online anti-malware community primarily serves home users and is therefore not ideally suited to deal with situations that are best handled by a company's own IT department. All companies have their own set of policies and procedures for handling situations like this, which are beyond our sphere of knowledge. Therefore, as this computer has been identified as infected, you are strongly advised to immediately seek the assistance of your company's IT department so they may implement their own preferred method for handling this situation.

So I am sorry we won't be able to help you anymore, and accordingly topic will be closed.

Even though I am unable to help I do hope you have a great Christmas Break :)

As this issue involves either a company owned machine or a machine that is used for business purposes, it falls outside the scope of this forum. Therefore, this topic is now closed.
