HJT log - possible malware?

Unread postby Cas34 » November 30th, 2009, 5:59 pm

Hi,

I was wondering if one of your experts could take a look at my HJT log and advise me. The problem I am encountering is that my PC is running very slow. Also last night I lost control of my PC for a few minutes and it was just clicking through applications itself.

I have taken a look over my HJT log and disabled "Frostwire.exe" as I was reading that it is dangerous and I do not know how it got on my PC.

The other entries that I found suspicous are as follows:

C:\Program Files\Raxco\PerfectDisk2008\PD91Agent.exe
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant =
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyOverride = *.local
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {02478D38-C3F9-4efb-9B51-7695ECA05670} - (no file) (I believe this is for yahoo companion and potential malware)
O2 - BHO: {107ce88a-2fc9-a2e9-12e4-65c9346b67b6} - {6b76b643-9c56-4e21-9e2a-9cf2a88ec701} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\noahfh.dll (file missing)
O2 - BHO: Windows Live Sign-in Helper - {9030D464-4C02-4ABF-8ECC-5164760863C6} - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Windows Live\WindowsLiveLogin.dll (I used revo unistaller to get rid of windows live and remove registry entries. Should this still be here?)

I was also unsure about some of the entries from 08-23 especially these ones:

http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/Viewe ... ewdw32.ocx (I do not know what this is)

and I do not have messenger installed on my PC anymore and I done a full uninstall using Revo Uninstaller. I also did not install PerfectDisk 2008 and cannot find it in my programme list.

I did not do anything other than scan with HJT as I am not qualified to do so.

I look forward to hearing from you and if you require further information, I will be more than happy to provide it. Thanks in advance.

Hi

As you say programs are being added without your knowledge can you ask whoever has access to this PC not to add or remove anything whilst I work with you. Thank you.

Follow the Instructions below in sequence. After you reboot to complete the disablement of TeaTimer can you make running RSIT the first thing you do before doing anything else with the computer.

With reference to Malware Removal's P2P Programs Policy, please uninstall the following programs before we continue:

  • Click on Start > Control Panel and double click on Add/Remove Programs.
  • Locate Frostwire and click on the Change/Remove button to uninstall it.
  • Close Add/Remove Programs and Control Panel when done.

Move HijackThis
You currently are running HijackThis from here: C:\Documents and Settings\Maria\My Documents\Software Installations\HijackThis.exe
  • In "My Documents" , right click an empty space and choose New > Folder
  • Rename the folder HJT
  • Copy and paste HijackThis.exe from C:\Documents and Settings\Maria\My Documents\Software Installations into the HJT folder.
  • Delete the original Hijackthis.exe found in C:\Documents and Settings\Maria\My Documents\Software Installations
This is because HijackThis creates back-ups of things you fix and needs to be in it's own folder for this reason.

NOTE: We need to temporarily disable some of your protection programs as they may interfere with the fixes.

Disable WinPatrol
  • Locate the WinPatrol Image icon in the system tray and right-click it and select Options...
  • In the list near the bottom of the window, uncheck Automatically run WinPatrol when computer starts.
  • Close WinPatrol Window
  • Right-click Image in System Tray and select Exit Program

Disable Spybot's TeaTimer. This is a two step process
First step:
  • Right-click the Spybot Icon in the System Tray (looks like a blue/white calendar with a padlock symbol)
  • If you have version 1.5 or 1.6, Click once on Resident Protection, then Right click the Spybot icon again and make sure Resident Protection is now Unchecked. The Spybot icon in the System tray should now be now colorless.
  • If you have Version 1.4, Click on Exit Spybot S&D Resident
Second step, For Either Version:
  • Open Spybot S&D
  • Click Mode, choose Advanced Mode
  • Go To the bottom of the Vertical Panel on the Left, Click Tools
  • then, also in left panel, click Resident shows a red/white shield.
  • If your firewall raises a question, say OK
  • In the Resident protection status frame, Uncheck the box labeled Resident "Tea-Timer"(Protection of over-all system settings) active
  • OK any prompts.
  • Use File, Exit to terminate Spybot
  • Reboot your machine for the changes to take effect.

Above are the logs that you requested. With regards Frostwire I was not able to locate it in add/remove programmes.

Re: HJT log - possible malware?

Unread postby melboy » December 13th, 2009, 3:53 pm

Hi

There were more signs of P2P file sharing programs other than Frostwire, namely BitTorrent and Limewire.
As pointed out in the rules previously, these programs really are a one way ticket to infection.
The OTM script below will get rid of them, along with a few other nasties.

Complete the instructions below in sequence and give me an update on how things are running.

Backup the Registry:

Modifying the Registry can create unforseen problems, so it always wise to create a backup before doing so.

  • Please go here and download ERUNT.
  • ERUNT (Emergency Recovery Utility NT) is a free program that allows you to keep a complete backup of your registry and restore it when needed.
