Browser redirection problem

I've picked up some kind of browser hijack that's intermittently (though often) sending my Firefox off on tangents. It sometimes opens a series of tabs, sometimes a new browser session altogether. Usually the sites don't exist and I wind up with six browser windows all with error messages. Sometimes I get one of those generic marketing sites. Interestingly, all the bogus tabs in the browser window have a hand-written-looking blue '2' at their far left edge. I've been able to solve these issues in the past, but this one is beyond me. I've tried several anti-malware pgms like Spybot S&D, and I just gave the trial version of Kaspersky a try, but to no avail. My Hijack This log:
