Hi,

I've had a deep think and would like to try and remove it without reinstalling my OS. Is this still possible. Only it will take me weeks to get back up and running.

Thank you again for all your help.

Best

Horatio.

Hi,
Let's proceed.

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
Please download from HERE and save to the desktop.
  • Make sure you are connected to the Internet.
  • Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings.
  • When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:
    • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Then click Finish.
  • MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan. If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue. If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install.
  • On the Scanner tab:
    • Make sure the "Perform Full Scan" option is selected.
    • Then click on the Scan button.
  • If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button.
  • The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient.
  • When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
  • Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.
  • Back at the main Scanner screen, click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to restart your computer. (see Note below)
  • The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply and exit MBAM.
Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts. Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.

Next,
OTM by Old Timer.
  • Double-click OTM.exe. (Vista users, please right click on OTM.exe and select Run as an Administrator)
  • Copy the lines in the codebox below.
    :processes
    explorer.exe

    :files
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\lphc339j0ejdc .exe

    :commands
    [emptytemp]
    [start explorer]
  • Return to OTM, right click in the Paste Instructions for Items to be Moved window (under the yellow bar, Code box into OTMoveIt3 (1).) and choose Paste.
  • Click the red Moveit! button.
  • Copy everything in the Results window (under the green bar), and paste it in your next reply.
  • Close OTM.

Note:
  • If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process.
  • If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes.
  • In this case, after the reboot, open Notepad (Start->All Programs->Accessories->Notepad), click File->Open, in the File Name box enter *.log and press the Enter key, navigate to the C:\_OTMoveIt\MovedFiles folder, and open the newest .log file present, and copy/paste the contents of that document back here in your next post.

ESET Online Scanner
Go here to run an online scannner from ESET.
  • Note: You will need to use Internet explorer for this scan
  • Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan
  • Tick the box next to YES, I accept the Terms of Use.
  • Click Start
  • When asked, allow the activex control to install
  • Click Start
  • Make sure that the option Remove found threats is unticked and the Scan Archives option is ticked
  • Click on Advanced Settings, ensure the options Scan for potentially unwanted applications, Scan for potentially unsafe applications, and Enable Anti-Stealth Technology are ticked
  • Click Scan
  • Wait for the scan to finish
  • Use notepad to open the logfile located at C:\Program Files\Eset\Eset Online Scanner\log.txt
  • Copy and paste that log as a reply to this topic

***WARNING : Please install! You have no protection from antivirus
Antivirus.
  • Antivirus help you to give the maximum protection for the system.
  • You are advice to have only ONE antivirus running on the system.
  • Please consider one of this program:

Next,
RSIT.
Please run RSIT again to produce log.txt.
***You can find manually the log at C:\rsit

Next,
Discussion.
Did everything you asked. Only thing I couldn't do is scan the e:/ file as I don't have an e:/ drive. Do correct me if I am wrong.

Can you tell me, how many partition you have?
I still figure out what make your computer have E:\.
Does it refer to external drive such as external Hard Disk Drive or thumbdrive. Do you have it?

Next,
Checklist.
Please post.
  • Content of MBAM log.
  • Content of OTM log.
  • Content of log.txt (Find it at C:\Program Files\Eset\Eset Online Scanner\log.txt)
  • Content of log.txt (Find it at C:\Rsit)
  • Answer for discussion.

Hi,

Here are my logs. Just one problem. I installed Avast and ran a scan and deleted a few infected files and now I don't have a desktop (eek!). I have the desktop image and my mouse and can run programs through task manager but there is no start menu or desktop icons.

I'm currently using safe mode to combat this. They all appear there.

Also in response to a partition I think the answer is yes. A while ago I reinstalled my windows and when I did so my ms start up information changed and brings up an option screen asking me which one to boot. One option is my windows XP and the other is the windows recovery console. I never use to have this and as I remember my hard drive did partition itself during this installation but I am not sure how to access it and never bothered to change it as it didn't affect the running of my computer.

It definitely isn't an external drive or anything as I don't have one (boo).

Anyway, here are my logs.

Reminder: Don't do anything out from my instruction.

Hi,
Can you enter normal mode?

If your screen doesn't appear anything. Please press ctrl+alt+delete.
  • Once Windows Task Manager appear, click on File > New Task (Run....).
  • In the box, write explorer.exe and click OK.

If Avast detected something, just deny/cancel. This will allow you to use desktop for next step.

Next,
ComboFix
Download ComboFix from one of these locations (DO NOT download ComboFix from anywhere else but one of the provided links):
Link 1
Link 2

**IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop**

  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications as below, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools.
    Avast!
    IObit Security 360

A guide to do this can be found here
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts
  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware
  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console
Image
**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:
Image

  • Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the contents of C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply
A word of warning: Neither I nor sUBs are responsible for any damage you may cause to your machine by running ComboFix on your own. This tool is not a toy and not for everyday use.
ComboFix SHOULD NOT be used unless requested by a forum helper

Next,
Checklist.
Please post.
  • Content of ComboFix log.
  • How is your system running?

Hi horatioeastwood,

I noticed the log provided is :
  • incomplete.
  • The tool was run twice.

According to above fact, can you :
  • get the C:\ComboFix.txt, copy the content and paste here again? (Note: Please use ctrl+a to select all and ctrl+c to copy)
  • tell me, what happened that lead the tool run twice?

I will get back to you soon.

Regards,

Reminder: Some of the log appear to be long, please use Ctrl+A (To select all) and Ctrl+C (To copy).

Hi,
Let's proceed

First,
Uninstall Combofix
  • Click START then RUN
  • Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK.
  • Note the space between the X and the U, it needs to be there.
  • Image
You can also delete any logs we have produced, and empty your Recycle bin.

Next,
ERUNT
Download ERUNT and save to the desktop.
  • Double click erunt-setup.exe to install the program.
  • Follow the prompts > uncheck Create NTREGOPT desktop icon at the Additional Tasks screen.
  • Click No when you are prompted about creating an ERUNT entry in the startup folder.
  • Next screen, uncheck Show documentation and check Launch ERUNT.
  • If ERUNT doesnt start by itself, launch it from the desktop shortcut.
  • At the configuration screen, make sure all 3 checkboxes are checked
  • Click Ok to run the backup process

Note:
The backups can be restored from here:
C:\windows\ERDNT\<todays date>\ERDNT.exe

Next,
ComboFix - New Copy.
Download ComboFix from one of these locations (DO NOT download ComboFix from anywhere else but one of the provided links) and save to the desktop:
Link 1
Link 2

Next,
CFScript.
Close any open browsers.
Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the code box below into it:

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Clipgrcssum]

Save this as CFScript.txt, in the same location as ComboFix.exe

Image

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe
When finished, it shall produce a log for you at "C:\ComboFix.txt"
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall
A word of warning: Neither I nor sUBs are responsible for any damage you may cause to your machine by running ComboFix on your own. This tool is not a toy and not for everyday use.

Hi,

Everything seems to be running ok. I uninstalled Avast and installed Antivir as it seemed to be lighter. Kapersky detected one worm which could do with removing. I was wondering why you ask for Iobit programs to be uninstalled. They worked very well for me. Also can we uninstall anythig that has been put on.

Thanks. This is super.

Anyway here are my logs.
