Random pop-ups and unremovable applications. Help!

Unread postby codywookman » October 26th, 2009, 9:52 pm

My pop-up blocker no longer keeps any ads from coming up. A "RON Too1 Gooochi" application shows up in the add or remove programs list, but when trying to remove it it asks for a password. I didn't trust it so I came here. My computer also has non-visual ads randomly begin. Like radio commercials that don't show up on the task manager but cannot be seen or stopped! I have no problems when using FireFox, but using Internet Explorer is a mess as I can hardly keep up with all the pop-ups. I could just continue using FireFox, but I'm afraid other parts of the computer may be in trouble or some of my information is being tracked! The following is the hijackthis log...thanks for the help!

Re: Random pop-ups and unremovable applications. Help!

Unread postby xixo_12 » November 1st, 2009, 9:24 am

Hi,

***Warning
There is a sign of backdoor/trojan/keylogger in your computer.
  • This allows hackers to remotely control your computer, steal critical system information and Download and Execute files.
  • I would counsel you to disconnect this PC from the Internet immediately.
  • If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it should contain any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable, and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to apprise them of your situation.
  • Though the Trojan has been identified and can be killed, because of it's backdoor functionality, your PC is very likely compromised and there is no way to be sure your computer can ever again be trusted. Many experts in the security community believe that once infected with this type of Trojan, the best course of action would be a reformat and reinstall of the OS.
  • Please read these for more information:
  • We can attempt to clean this machine but i can't guarantee that it will be 100% secure afterwards.

Please feel free to ask any questions.

Please let us know what you have decided to do in your next post.

Sorry it has taken so long.

I have since reinstalled my op system. I decided a problem like this was too much risk and brought my computer in for professional help. Would you want me to post another HJT log to make sure it is clean? Thanks
