Hello and welcome to Malware Removal Forums

My handle is shinybeast and I will be assisting you in the removal of malware your computer may have.

Please follow these guidelines as we work to clean your computer.
  • Read through the instructions before you perform them and if you have questions please ask before you perform them. Please do not guess. I will be happy to clarify or explain.
  • Perform all instructions in the order given.
  • Stick with the process until I give you an "all clean." If the symptoms are gone, it does not necessarily mean your computer is safe and secure.
  • The instructions assume you are using an account with administrator privileges.
  • Do not run any other tools to remove malware while we are working.
  • Post all responses in a reply to this topic - Please do not start a new topic.
  • If your security software throws up warnings about some of these tools, please allow these tools to run, they are safe.
  • If you have not done so, please take time to read the Malware Removal Forum Guidelines and Rules where the conditions for receiving help at this forum are explained.

NOTE: I am in training here at Malware Removal University.
I must get my replies to you approved by a malware expert which means it could take slightly longer to get back to you.
Your patience is appreciated. :)

Installed Program List

I would be helpful to see a list of programs installed on your computer.

  • Please start Hijackthis
  • Click the Open the Misc Tools section button
  • Click the Open Uninstall Manager... under System Tools

You will see a list of programs installed on your computer.
Please click the Save List... button and specify where you would like to save the list.
Once you click Save, the list will open in Notepad. Simply copy and paste the entire contents of Notepad in your next post.

In your next reply, please include the uninstall list and a new HijackThis log

Hello drekin,

My apologies for the delay

Yes, you have some baddies there.
I have a question for you. Do you connect to the internet through a dial-up connection or do you have something faster?

Let's get a deeper look before we start removing the malware.

Scan with RSIT

  • Please download Random's System Information Tool by random/random from here and save it to your desktop.
  • Double-click RSIT.exe to run the tool
  • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
  • Once it finishes, two logs will open...
    • log.txt will be opened maximized
    • info.txt will be opened minimized
  • Please post the contents of both logs in your next post.

GMER Scan

  • Please download gmer.zip by GMER from here and extract it to your desktop.
  • Double-click gmer.exe to launch the scan
  • If asked, allow the gmer.sys driver to load
  • If it warns you about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run scan, click OK
  • If you don't get a warning, click Scan in lower right of the GMER window
  • Once the scan has finished, click Copy
  • You should get a popup telling you the log was copied to the clipboard
  • Start Notepad (Click Start, click Run..., type notepad and press Enter)
  • Paste (Ctrl+v) the log into notepad and save the log as gmer.txt.
  • Post the contents of gmer.txt in your next reply.

Please include the both RSIT logs and the GMER log in your next reply along with an answer to my query about your internet connection.

Hello Drekin,

Apologies for the delay.

Please perform the following.
Also, please try to reply within 3 days; if you do not, your topic may be closed.

Uninstall Programs

Click Start, click Run...
Type "appwiz.cpl" without the quotes and click OK
For each of the programs listed below, highlight them in the list and click Remove

Internet Explorer Default Page

DelDomains

  • Right-click here and select Save Target As... then Save DelDomains.inf to your Desktop
  • Locate DelDomains.inf on your Desktop and Right-click DelDomains.inf and select Install
  • This will remove all entries in the Trusted, Restricted, and Enhanced Security Configuration Zones.

NOTE: You will not see any on-screen action.

Download and Run Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

Please download the free version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and save to a convenient location.
Double-click the mbam-setup.exe file that you download to start the installation
Go through the install screens and before you click finish ensure that these two check boxes are checked.
  • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

The program will then check for updates. If you have a firewall installed and it throws up a warning, please allow Malwarebytes through.
  • Once it checks for and gets any updates tick Perform quick scan
  • Click Start Scan
  • When it finishes, click OK in the window that pops up and then click Show Results in the main window
  • Ensure that all items are checked and click Remove Selected.
  • When the removal is complete, a logfile will open. Please copy and paste the entire contents of the logfile in your next reply. See NOTE below
  • If necessary, the logfile can also be accessed by running Malwarebytes' and clicking the Log tab. Double-click the current log to open it.
NOTE: If Malwarebytes' encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts. Click OK to either and let it proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot will prevent Malwarebytes' from removing all the malware.

Please post the MalwareBytes' log with a note on how the computer is behaving in your next reply.

The Item 'Internet Explorer default Page' was not listed under my add/remove programs list, thus that step was unable to be completed. I do have on there 924PLC32 though. What is this and should it be removed? Also, will any of these programs you have asked me to install interfere with my AVG?

Hi Drekin,

The Item 'Internet Explorer default Page' was not listed under my add/remove programs list

OK, not a big deal. I will see if anything needs to be done after you run the next instructions.

I do have on there 924PLC32 though. What is this and should it be removed?

924PLC32 is your System Recovery, do not try to uninstall it!

Also, will any of these programs you have asked me to install interfere with my AVG?

Short answer: no.

Deldomains removed the bad sites that were in Internet Explorer's trusted zone. It's a one time thing and will do nothing to interfere with AVG.

The free version of MalwareBytes' only runs when you tell it to and will therefore not interfere with AVG.

We still have some work to do.

ComboFix

Hi Drekin,

You didn't perform my previous instructions correctly. Let's try it again. If there is something you do not understand, please ask and I will try to clarify.

Delete CFScript.txt from the desktop. Then do the following.

CFScript

  1. Open notepad (Click Start, click Run..., type notepad and press enter) and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:
    File::
    C:\mlhlsvq.exe

    Registry::
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customi ... .yahoo.com
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customi ... ch/ie.html
    O4 - HKUS\S-1-5-18\..\Run: [Rdw] C:\Documents and Settings\Diane\My Documents\??mbols\r?gsvr32.exe (User 'SYSTEM')
    O4 - HKUS\.DEFAULT\..\Run: [Rdw] C:\Documents and Settings\Diane\My Documents\??mbols\r?gsvr32.exe (User 'Default user')

  2. Save this as "CFScript.txt" to the same location as ComboFix.exe (should be your Desktop)
  3. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix. A guide to do this can be found here.
  4. Close any open browsers.

    Image
  5. Refering to the picture above, hover the mouse pointer over CFScript.txt. Left-click CFScript.txt and keep the mouse button depressed. Drag the mouse pointer and CFScript and hover over Combofix.exe. Once it is over Combofix.exe, release the mouse button and Combofix should start indicated by the ComboFix box and green bar in the above picture. If combofix doesn't start, try again or get back to me. What we are doing is called a "drag and drop" which may clarify things a bit.
  6. When finished, it shall produce a log for you at C:\ComboFix.txt which I will require in your next reply.

*Do not forget to enable your protection programs before you connect to the internet!*

Please post the new combofix log (C:\ComboFix.txt) and a new HijackThis log in your next reply.
Also please inform me of how the computer is running.

Due to a lack of response, this topic is now closed.

If you still require help, please open a new thread in the Infected? Virus, malware, adware, ransomware, oh my! forum, include a fresh FRST log, and wait for a new helper.
