My PC is hijacked by malware (obviously)

I downloaded some sort of malware and cannot seem to fix the problem. It appears when I use a search engine like Google and redirects me to other pages. I have used Spybot & McAfee, cleaned the computer, defragged, removed unused programs, etc; but I cannot seem to find the problem. I believe I downloaded something that posed as a virus scanner which popped up on my computer and instantly started downloading itself. I knew it was bad from the moment it came up so I just cut the power to the computer because there was no other way to stop the program. The problem isn't too bad at the moment but I am afraid it will get worse. Can you help?
