Can't run HiJack

Unread postby whiteboy » October 4th, 2009, 2:23 am

I installed HiJackThis, its window open and I clicked on scan. It ran a few seconds and shutdown, I tried to open it again and I got this message:
"Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the approprite permission to access the item."
I also have Malwarebytes installed and get the same message when I try to open it. I have AVG installed, it opens but will not scan anything. I have reinstalled all of these with the same results.
I had McAfee Security Center from Comcast installed and I got an aleart that said:
"McAfee has automatically blocked a buffer overflow"
About this buffer overflow: file C:\windows\system32\services.exe
This alert would come up at windows startup, then this message would appear:
"The system process C:\windows\system32\services.exe terminated unexpectedly with status code 1073741819. The system will restart."
Tried to scan and got the same message as with HiJackThis. I could not even reinstall it. Since McAfee isn't installed I don't see these alerts anymore.
I use Firefox as my browser, when I open firefox, Malwarebytes(which runs in system tray) reports IP protection infection detected:(various IP addresses)
also various IE windows popup with adsin them.
Is there anything else that can go wrong, What do I do? Can you help me these problems?

We understand that you are having difficulty running certain programs, including HijackThis. However, in order for us to help you it is necessary that you provide us with a HijackThis log, and it is possible you may be able to trick the malware into letting you do this. First, download HijackThis to a clean computer, then rename it from HijackThis.exe to any other name you want, using an .exe extension, for example... YourLastName.exe. Once you have done that, burn it to a CD (preferable to using a flash drive that may easily become infected) then transfer the renamed file to the infected computer and run a scan, then start a new topic and include your HijackThis log.

Please follow the guideline at the link below to start a new topic and post your HijackThis log. If you are unable to create and post a HijackThis log, then your only option may be to reformat your computer and reinstall the operating system.

This topic is now closed. Please start a new topic by following the HijackThis Guideline posted here, just be certain to rename HijackThis: >Guideline for posting your HijackThis log<
