Computer acting strangely: mouse at times does not work...

Unread postby gabol » September 3rd, 2009, 11:13 am

Hi, here are some of the strange things my laptop is doing:
1- at times the mouse will not work and so I have to do a hard reboot
2- once I complete the hard reboot the mouse works but all icons are frozen (I can't open any program) and the task bar at the bottom of my desktop does not appear, so I have to do another hard reboot.
3- after the third hard reboot, all appears ok, then, I run all my anti spyware software (finding only a few bugs) , but I'm not able to run Malwarebytes anti malware software, it freezes.
4- my anti virus software keeps popping up with a display that it has blocked WIN32/small QVC.troyan

Thank you for your help.

your computer working as quickly as possible, and I will work hard to help see that happen.

Please be patient and I'd be grateful if you would note the following:
  • I will working be on your Malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for this issue on this machine.
  • Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine appears to be clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
  • If after 5 days you have not responded to this topic, it will be closed, and you will need to start a new one.
  • It's often worth reading through these instructions and printing them for ease of reference.
  • If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to say or ask!! It's better to be sure and safe than sorry.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
  • All of my posts need to be checked by a teacher, so please be patient while I attempt to remove your malware.

Make an uninstall list using HijackThis
To access the Uninstall Manager you would do the following:
  • Start HijackThis
  • Click on the Config button
  • Click on the Misc Tools button
  • Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.
  • Click on the Save list... button and specify where you would like to save this file. When you press Save button a notepad will open with the contents of that file. Save the file to your desktop.

P2P Software

IMPORTANT I notice there are signs of one or more P2P (Peer to Peer) File Sharing Programs on your computer.

Ares

I'd like you to read the Guidelines for P2P Programs where we explain why it's not a good idea to have them.

Note: Even if you are using a "safe" P2P program, it is only the program that is safe. You will be sharing files from uncertified sources, and these are often infected. The bad guys use P2P file sharing as a major conduit to spread their wares.

You must go to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and uninstall the programs listed above (in red).

If you do not wish to remove your P2P programs, please tell me and this topic will be closed.

If you wish to continue, please answer the following questions,

I notice that you have a lot of malware scanners/anti-viruses installed. The ones I am most curious about are ESET Anti-Virus, IObit Security 360, Superantispyware, and Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware.

All of these scanners have the ability to be "real-time" scanners, which means they are always running on your computer and scanning files that you may open to make sure they are legitimate. The problem with running more than one is that it can slow down your computer and they could possibly interfere with each other.

So, do you pay for Superantispyware or Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware? The reason I ask is because one you pay for either of these, they become real-time scanners.

To save resources, I recommend that you only have one anti-virus and one anti-malware/anti-spyware running. So, I recommend that you always have ESET running and only run a-squared free edition occasionally. Don't have both of these running at the same time.

Also, out of the 3 anti-malware/spyware that you have, I recommend that you always have Iobit Security 360 running and run Superantispyware and Malwarebytes' Anti-malware occasionally, don't have all of these running at the same time.

Please answer my questions on your next reply and please post a new Hijackthis log too.

Due to lack of response this topic is now closed.

If you still require help, please open a new thread in the Infected? Virus, malware, adware, ransomware, oh my! forum, include a fresh FRST log, and wait for a new helper.
