Hi there, and welcome to the forums!

Please set your system to show all files; please see here if you're unsure how to do this. (Please remember to reverse this when we are finished getting your clean.)

Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:

O2 - BHO: ATLDistrib Object - {93C6313C-9DB4-4694-8BD0-E378C573A9AD} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\geeda.dll
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {EA32FB3B-21C9-42cc-B8EF-01A9B28EDB0D} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\pmnlm.dll
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {BA52B914-B692-46c4-B683-905236F6F655} - (no file)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AltPayments] "C:\Program Files\AltPayments\AltPayments.exe"
O20 - Winlogon Notify: geeda - C:\WINDOWS\system32\geeda.dll
O20 - Winlogon Notify: pmnlm - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\pmnlm.dll

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Reboot into Safe Mode: please see here if you are not sure how to do this.

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders, and delete them:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\geeda.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\pmnlm.dll
C:\Program Files\AltPayments\

Exit Explorer, and reboot as normal afterwards.

Post back a fresh HijackThis log and we will take another look.

Could not remove geeda or pmnlm

Unread postby sly » January 22nd, 2006, 12:02 am

Chris RLG,

Thanks so much for replying so quickly. This is actually homecomputeraid. I could not remove geeda.dll or pmnlm.dll in safe mode. I found them and tried to delete them but got the following message:

Error deleting file or folder
Cannot delete geeda: It is being used by another person or program.
Close any program that might be using the file and try again.

I checked running processes and found the following:

taskmgr.exe 3,396k
Explorer.exe 19,264k
svchost.exe 7,992k
svchost.exe 3,628k
svchost.exe 3,052k
lsass.exe 884k
services.exe 3,724k
winlogon.exe 2,464k
csrss.exe 2,832k
smss.exe 208k
System Idle Process 16k

Not much I could turn off.

Here's a new log:

Same two files - try using HJT delete on reboot option.

You will find it in the config/misc tools section of HJT.

As a student I would expect you to be able to find that option without too much problem.

When the reboot has done, then post back with a new HJT log, you can try to remove those lines again with HJT before doing it.

The HJT log you post, make sure its immediatly after a reboot please, even if that means doing two reboots.

update (Info from VopThis - thanks you vopthis)

====================

Download VirtumundoBeGone by secured2k
http://secured2k.home.comcast.net/tools ... BeGone.exe
Save the file to your desktop
Close all running programs (including your Internet Browser)
Double-click VirtumundoBeGone.exe on the desktop
Read the introductory information, and then click Continue
Click Start
When asked if you want to continue, click Yes to run the fix
Click "Save Log"

Note: It is normal for the the fix to terminate by producing a BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH so don't be concerned when this happens. It requires you to manually reboot to restore your normal windows desktop.

The log created by VirtumundoBeGone called VBG.TXT will be on located on your desktop. Please retain VBG.TXT.

Empty Recycle Bin.

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file along with the VBG.TXT into this thread.
Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
