Slooooooow PC Start Up - HIJACK THIS log attached

Unread postby HMG1K » August 2nd, 2009, 2:45 pm

Hi

I've pasted in my Hijack This log below - and would appreciate help in removing any unwanted / unneeded entries.

My home PC takes a full 5-minutes to get to a working state - from the moment I see my desktop wallpaper (just the desktop wallpaper) to when all icons, etc, have loaded and it allows me to start using it.

It seems as if something is trying to connect to the net as nothing happens for 4 minutes, then the last minute the icons load. The whole process before would take 90-seconds or so.

I'm running XP SP2 on an HP Workstation, dual 3.2Ghz Xenon processor machine; with 2GB RAM. I'm very clean and tidy with running AdAware, Malware Bytes, and Spybot, etc, once a week and registery cleaners (Eusing) to make sure I haven't any junk on the machine.

Thanks in advance for your help. :compress:

Hi HMG1K,
Sorry for the delay.
The older versions of Adobe Acrobat may have a "broken" updater that never stops trying to update. It can seriously slow down or hang a PC.
Older versions of Acrobat and Reader are also vulnerable to various pdf exploits.
You can keep your older, full version of Adobe Acrobat, but you should use it for editing and creation of pdf's only, NOT for opening pdf's on the net.
You can still call Adobe Acrobat from Start, All Programs

Hi asky127

Thanks for your help. I tried what you said and checked, deleted and restarted - hasn't made a difference to start up. It still shows my desktop wall paper, waits for 5 / 6 minutes and then frantically loads everything as normal.

HMG1K,
You can replace Spybot after we are through, although it's not absolutely necessary with Malwarebytes on board.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Remove Programs Using Control Panel
From Start, Settings, Control Panel or Start, Control Panel, click Add/Remove Programs.
Highlight each Entry, as follows, one by one, if it exists, and choose Remove :
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6
Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2
Java(TM) 6 Update 7
Registry Mechanic 7.0
Spybot - Search & Destroy
Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.4

Take extra care in answering questions posed by any Uninstaller. Some questions may be worded to deceive you into Keeping the program.
------------------------------------------------------------
Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment here : http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp, and install it to your computer.
It is currently the 5th item on the page (the page changes often), called JRE 6 Update 15
Select Windows and multi-language, and check to agree to the license.
Choose Windows Offline installation version.
Download it, choose Save, and save it to your desktop.
Then doubleclick it, and it will install the newest version of Java for you to use.
You can then remove the Installer from your desktop.
--------------------------------------------------------
You should download and install the newest version of the free Adobe Reader for reading pdf files, due to the vulnerabilities in earlier versions.
All versions numbered lower than 9.1 are vulnerable.
  • Go here and click on AdbeRdr910_en_US.exe to download the latest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader.
  • Save this file to your desktop and run it to install the latest version of Adobe Reader.

-----------------------------------------------------------
Submit a file to Jotti
Please go here : http://virusscan.jotti.org/
On top of the page there is a field to add the filepath.
Copy and paste this filepath:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\atiisrgl.exe

Then hit Submit or Upload, depending on the scanner.
The scan will take a while before the result comes up so please be patient.
Then copy and/or save the result and post it here in this thread.

If Jotti's service load is too high, you can use the following scanner instead:
http://www.virustotal.com/xhtml/index_en.html
or virus.org here: http://scanner.virus.org/

Due to a lack of response, this topic is now closed.

If you still require help, please open a new thread in the Infected? Virus, malware, adware, ransomware, oh my! forum, include a fresh FRST log, and wait for a new helper.
