I got a virus on my laptop last Thursday. Initially it changed all my files to .lnk files (making them impossible to open), but I eventually fixed that problem. Unfortunately there are still a host of unresolved issues. I cannot open Malwarebytes and Hijack This unless I change the names of the files. My add/remove programs doesn't work properly, only a few programs give me the ability to change/delete them. My system restore also doesn't work properly. I am also having issues with the internet, sites get redirected and I have a pesky ad that appears on every webpage for some product called Vimax. I have tried numerous antivirus and spyware removal programs; they initially found trojan and rookit files along with other infected files and deleted them, but they can't find anything else aside from a few cookies. I have Windows XP Home edition and mainly use Firefox.
