I've got Malware - Windowsclick.com associated with UACn.sys

Unread postby sandywilson » July 19th, 2009, 2:36 pm

Hi, Hope someone can help with the problem I'm currently experiencing!

Operating System: XP - patched up to date

Security: AVG 8.5

Symptoms:

On Google, searches pulling up Wikipedia entries are redirected to suspicious search engines

Noticed redirects were via windowsclick.com

Did a quick search on Google and saw link to "rootkit" malware

Ran AVG scan - found nothing

Ran "Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool - found nothing

Looked at AVG settings for Whole Computer Scan and found "Scan for Rootkits" option unselected - selected this and ran AVG scan - found hidden driver "UACxvvrtiltarovxehub.sys" - removed

Still same Google problem

Did some more searching and found http://social.answers.microsoft.com/For ... 61798b7b42

Downloaded, installed and ran ATF Cleaner

Downloaded and tried to install Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware - installation did not complete

Looked at System Restore - no restore points available!

Looked further at Vicenzo's "How to get rid of Malware page" and found an entry for malwareremoval.com

My Hijackthis log follows:
