IE and Firefox will not load HTTP sites only HTTPS sites

I downloaded a file from shareaza which was supposed to be the opera browser for vista I clicked on the exe file and nothing appeared to happen. I clicked on it again and nothing seemed to happen. I then went on to IE 8 to search the web for opera but could not get into any of my http sites only links that I had saved with the https extension would work. I installed Opera from an exe file off another computer then did a search for firefox and installed it and I cannot get firefox to start I receive an error that the http site cannot be found.
