Hi leo the lion,
Welcome to the Malware Removal forums. I will be more than happy to help you work on your problems.
Please give me some time to review your log as this can be a lengthy process. As soon as a MR Staff Member reviews my fix, I will post it for you.
In the mean time, if any problems occur. Please let me know.
Please only use this topic to reply to. Do not start another thread.
The fixes we will use are specific to your problems and should only be used for this issue on this machine.
If you’re unsure of anything at all please stop and ask!

Thanks

Hi leo the lion,

We have some cleanup work to do and your Windows XP is out of date. Before you upgrade to SP2 lets make sure your system is clean.

We need to disable your Microsoft AntiSpyware Real-time Protection as it may interfere with the fixes that we need to make.

Open Microsoft AntiSpyware.
Click on Tools, Settings.
In the left pane, click on Real-time Protection.
Under Startup Options uncheck Enable the Microsoft AntiSpyware Security Agents on startup (recommended).
Under Real-time spyware threat protection uncheck Enable real-time spyware threat protection (recommended).
After you uncheck these, click on the Save button and close Microsoft AntiSpyware.
Right click on the Microsoft AntiSpyware icon on the taskbar and select Shutdown Microsoft AntiSpyware.

After all of the fixes are complete it is very important that you enable Real-time Protection again.
==========

Disable WinPatrol
- Right Click the 'Scotty Dog ' icon in the system tray
- Click Always Run Winpatrol
- When WinPatrol dialog comes up asking about Startup change, click Yes
- Reboot your machine for the changes to take effect before running HJT.

To Re-enable WinPatrol after your malware removal is complete:
- Click Start, Programs, All Programs, WinPatrol, WinPatrol
- Click Startup Info Tab
- Click Add
- When dialog comes up, locate Winpatrol.exe, usually in C:\Program Files\BillP Studios\Winpatrol
- Click OK
==========

Run HijackThis as you did to generate a log, but this time click on 'Do a system scan only'.
Place a checkmark in the boxes to the left of the following entries, by clicking on them:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://uk.red.clientapps.yahoo.com/cust ... _side.html
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://uk.red.clientapps.yahoo.com/cust ... _side.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://uk.red.clientapps.yahoo.com/cust ... yahoo.com/

O16 - DPF: {1A781DED-C22D-4153-3213-A3211E29DF13} (GameDesire Card Games) - http://67.15.101.3/g_bin/eng/cards_2_0_0_66.cab

CLOSE ALL OPEN WINDOWS AND BROWSERS - EXCEPT HJT and click on Fix checked
==========

Clean out your Temp files as follows:
Open Internet Explorer. You'll get a 404 page not found, but that is normal in safe mode.
At the top, click Tools>Internet Options> and then, in the center click Delete Cookies
Click Delete Files and then in the new applet check the box for all offline content
Click OK
Close that applet and open the C>Windows>Temp folder, and delete all files in there too, and all files in sub-folders of Temp.
Empty the C:\Windows\Prefetch Folder about once a month. More if you use the internet a lot.
Empty ALL C:\Documents and Settings\user name here\LocalSettings\Temp Folders

Note: If you cannot delete them all at once because you have too many, then click and hold ctrl and highlight a batch of them at a time. Once highlighted, R-click over the highlight and select delete. Rinse, lather, repeat until folder is empty
==========

Close all applications and Run ewido Malware Remover

Click on the Scanner button in the left menu, then click on Settings , and under "What to scan ?", select "Every file " then click ok .
Then click on Complete System Scan . This scan can take quite a while to run.

If during your scan Ewido "crashes" or "hangs", please try scanning again. Before running the scan, click on 'Scanner' (the 3rd bar from the top on the left) and Choose 'Settings'. Uncheck 'Scan in NTFS Alternate Data Streams' as this can cause problems in overly infected systems. Click 'OK' and then follow the instructions

If ewido finds anything, it will pop up a notification. We have been finding some cases of false positives with the new version of Ewido, so we need to step through the fixes one-by-one. If Ewido finds something that you KNOW is legitimate (for example, parts of AVG Antivirus, pcAnywhere and the game "Risk" have been flagged), select "none" as the action. DO NOT check "Perform action with all infections ". If you are unsure of an entry, select "none" for the time being. I'll see that in the log you will post later and let you know if ewido needs to be run again.

When the scan finishes, click on "Save Report ". This will create a text file. Make sure you know where to find this file again.
==========
Post a new HJT Log
Post ewido Report
==========

Hi leo the lion,
How are things running?

Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
----------
Restart your computer
----------
Turn ON System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Un-Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Remember to re-enable your WinPatrol and MS AnitSpyware realtime protection.

These last steps are crucial to help protect your system.
Please consider updating to Windows XP SP2. it will provide added security measures. See the information below.

You already used ewido and MS AntiSpyware. Continue to update and use both at least weekly to help protect your PC. Reboot between scans to clean out the memory and found files

Use an Anti Virus Software - It is very important that your computer has an anti-virus software running on your machine. This alone can save you a lot of trouble with malware in the future. See this link for a listing of some on line & their stand-alone anti virus programs:
Computer Safety On line - Anti-Virus

Use a Firewall CONTINUALLY I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer. Without a firewall your computer is susceptible to being hacked and taken over. Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly. Windows firewall is good, but only protects incoming threats. Look for a firewall like Sygate or Zone Alarm that blocks both incoming and outgoing information.
ZoneAlarm
Sygate

IMPORTANT: You need to Update Windows and Internet Explorer to protect your computer from the malware that is around on the Internet. Please go to the windows update site to get the critical updates.
Please enable automatic updates.
The Service Pack 2 download is too large for dial up. You can get a FREE copy on CD from Microsoft here

If that’s all I can help you with today and you have completed the above items then congratulations, it appears your system is all clean and less susceptible to attack.
