VirtualBox XP and control userpasswords2

Unread postby Malware Hater » June 5th, 2009, 11:49 pm

Installed VirtualBox and XP.

I made the mistake of entering a password when I installed XP and then decided I'd like to remove it. I Googled this and information said to open cmd window and type "control userpasswords2" which I did; and to uncheck users must name and password to use this computer.

After rebooting, I am unable to get pass the Windows is starting screen.

Is there anyway to fix this, or do I need to reinstall?

In what way are you unable to pass the welcome screen? What happens?

I get the screen with the progress bar, then it flashes to a comment box I cannot catch, and finally to the Windows is Starting up screen where it stays.

By using Recovery Console, I was able to do a chkdsk. This enabled me to startup in safe mode; something I couldn't do before. Once in safe mode, I opened a DOS window and entered: control userpasswords2 again where I fixed the password error I made.

I archived your post from Room 08a - that room is only for registry P/Ls, if you want to ask me something directly then you can send a PM.

Has your issue been resolved?
