Hello xk8ping2, welcome to MWR
Please take note of the following before we begin the cleaning process:
  • The whole process will usually take at least a week complete, sometimes several weeks depending on the severity of the infection and how promptly you and me are able to reply, so please stay patient
  • Hang in there until I give you the 'All clean'. If you leave prematurely because your computer seems to be back to its old self, the risk of re-infection will be very high
  • Perform all actions in the order given
  • The instructions I give expect that you're using an account with administrator privileges and that the language of your operating system is English.
  • Dont be afraid to ask questions if something is unclear or you run into issues during cleaning steps
  • I recommend you read through each set of instructions before you actually perform them

The first thing you should do is to subscribe to this topic.
In the top left corner of your opening post there is a link called Subscribe topic. If you click it you will be subscribed to this thread and will receive instant email notification of new replies. Most find that this works better than periodically checking back here to see if there's any new posts.

The second thing you should do is to take a backup of everything you have on the computer that's important not to lose.
I will do my best to ensure a safe removal procedure, but it does happen on rare occations that computers does not make it through disinfection and must be reinstalled.

1) Create an uninstall list
  • Launch Hijackthis
  • Click the Open the Misc Tools section button
  • Click the Open Uninstall Manager button.
  • Click the Save list button.
  • Include this log in your next reply

2) Get a new HiJackThis log
  • Launch Hijackthis
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button
  • HJT will run a scan and a log will open in Notepad
  • Include this log in your next reply

Some questions:
Is this a corporate/business computer or is it a home/private computer?
What symptoms are you experiencing that makes you belive the computer is infected?
Have you done anything to try and solve the malware problems yourself before you posted here?

Things I have done so far to fix on my own, I installed Kaspersky Lab Anit-malware software as your site suggested.

You forgot to answer a couple of my questions:
Is this a corporate/business computer or is it a home/private computer?
What symptoms are you experiencing that makes you belive the computer is infected?

Are you familiar with the program "Rhinoceros" that is installed on your computer?
What is it used for?

I need to see a DDS log as well
Download and run DDS by sUBs
  • Download DDS from one of the links below and save it to your desktop
    Link1 | Link2 | Link3
  • Double-click the file to run the tool
  • A black window will stay open while the tool runs
  • Wait for the scan to finish (this will only take a couple of minutes), and two logs to open in separate notepad documents
  • Include both these logs in your next reply

I downloaded the file dds.scr and then I have the option to run. All that happened is, immediately a wordpad file comes up with the program code? It did not execute?

I need you to answer these questions
You forgot to answer a couple of my questions:
Is this a corporate/business computer or is it a home/private computer?
What symptoms are you experiencing that makes you belive the computer is infected?

Are you familiar with the program "Rhinoceros" that is installed on your computer?
What is it used for?

It is a private computer but used for business.

Rhinocerous is a 3D Computer Design program I use in my business to design buildings with.

What happpened was - I downloaded a program from a company that sells software for laser scanning called LD modeler. As soon as I quit the program all hell broke loose. First I noticed when ever I did a google search it was getting hijacked by a website called windowslick.com next my computer started running slow and the cpu would run up to 100%. I also noticed musica and an advertisment came through my speakers when no programs were running. Then I tried to do a system restore and it would not run. I tried a disk defrag and that program would give me an error. I then downloaded Kaspersky anti malware and it keeps detecting a Rootkit.Win32.TDSS.a everytime I restart and says it can't get rid of it because its deep in memory.

So those are my issues.

I will have to consult an admin here about whether or not to proceede, as this forum strictly only handles home computers.
Me or an admin will get back to you on that shortly.

A word of advice:
This computer should be kept far away from any business network in its current state, as it may infect other computers and servers on that network.

I do keep it away. I am a consultant and this is my stand alone computer. All files are sent via emails.

Thanks for your help in what ever way possible?

I am not going to be able to assist you further because, like I said before, we only offer support to computers in a home environment.
Your company should have IT resources that can take care of issues like these.

I will give one recommendation though, and that is to format and reinstall the whole computer.
The reason is that you're infected with a rootkit, and those type of infections are the trickiest ones to remove.
Whats more is that it can often be hard to be sure whether or not the infection is actually gone, because one of the characteristics of a rootkit is stealth behaviour.

This computer has an infection that is resistant to removal. That infection is being protected by a rootkit. Even if the rootkit and the infection were removed, it would be impossible to know what changes had been made to this system, or whether or not other rootkits had been planted on it. The only reliable option is to reformat and reinstall the operating system. Hopefully, clean data backups are available.

As this computer is a business computer and part of a domain as well, it may very likely have been connected to the domain's network while infected, therefore, presenting a risk to other computers connected to that same network.

The online anti-malware community primarily serves home users and is therefore not ideally suited to deal with situations that are best handled by a company's own IT department. If your company does not have an IT department or a designated IT person, then an outside consultant should be contracted to handle this issue.

As this issue involves a business computer, and therefore falls outside the scope of this forum, this topic is now closed.
