Packed.Generic.200 virus

Unread postby duff » May 19th, 2009, 5:12 pm

Hello,

My Norton Antivirus has detected, but cannot remove, a virus called Packed.Generic.200. I followed the instructions from Symantec (disable system restore, update virus definitions, run scan, delete infected file), but it's not working. I have tried doing this in safe mode too, but there it doesn't even detect the virus. I was able to download and run Malwarebytes, which was able to remove several items, but Norton still detects the virus. I also tried Super Anti Spyware, but that did not find anything. Any help you could give me here or could direct me to would be most appreciated. This thing is proving very hard to get rid of. Below is my Hijack This log.
Thank you,
Duff

Hi,

Thanks for replying to my log. I think Malwarebytes was able to clean this from my system. I think Norton was still showing it when I booted up because I had used another application to remove it. I found a post in a Symantec forum that told me how to delete it out of the history. All scans I've rund since (Norton, Malwarebytes, SAS) have come up clean, but I'll let the experts be the judge. Here are all the logs you asked for.
Thanks & Regards,
Duff

Hi,

When I rerun RSIT, only the log file comes up, not the info file. Do you know if these files get saved anywhere?

Hi Duff,

  • Download GMER by GMER from one of the links below:
    Link1
    Link2
  • Unzip it to a folder on your desktop
  • Double click on gmer.exe to launch GMER
  • If asked, allow the gmer.sys driver load
  • If it warns you about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run scan, click OK
  • If you don't get a warning then

    • Click the rootkit tab
    • Click Scan
  • Once the scan has finished, click copy
  • Paste the log into notepad using Ctrl+V
  • Save it to your desktop as gmerrk.txt
  • Click on the >>> tab
  • This will open up the rest of the tabs for you
  • Click on the Autostart tab
  • Click on Scan
  • Once the scan has finished, click copy
  • Paste the log into notepad using Ctrl+V
  • Save it to your desktop as gmerautos.txt
  • Copy and paste the contents of gmerautos.txt and gmerrk.txt as a reply to this topic

Please reply with:-
  • New HJT log
  • 2 x GMER Logs

Hi Duff, Can you tell me what particular problems you are having?

Kaspersky Online Scan
Do an online scan with >Kaspersky Online Scanner<
Please use Internet Explorer

  • Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button
  • It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run
  • When the downloads have finished, click on Settings
  • Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button:
Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
      Archives
      Mail databases
  • Click on My Computer under Scan
  • Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report
  • You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As...
  • Save this report to a convenient place. Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt) before clicking on the Save button
  • Please post this log in your next reply

Please reply with:-
  • Kaspersky report
  • New HJT log
  • Answer to my question

Due to a lack of response, this topic is now closed.

If you still require help, please open a new thread in the Infected? Virus, malware, adware, ransomware, oh my! forum, include a fresh FRST log, and wait for a new helper.
