Hello and welcome to the Malware Removal Forums

I will be assisting you with your Malware issues.

IMPORTANT

Whatever repairs we make, are for fixing your computer problems only and by no means should be used on another computer.
To make cleaning this machine easier:-
  • Continue to respond to this thread until I give you the All Clean!
  • Please DO NOT uninstall/install any programs unless asked to. It is more difficult when files/programs appear or disappear from the logs.
  • Please do not run any scans other than those requested and do not post any logs/reports unless specifically requested to do so.
  • Please follow all instructions in the order posted.
  • If you have any questions or do not understand instructions, please ask before continuing.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
  • As I am still in training, everything that I post to you, must be checked by one of the teachers. Therefore, there may be a delay between posts.

Make an uninstall list using HijackThis
To access the Uninstall Manager you would do the following:
  • Start HijackThis
  • Click on the Config button
  • Click on the Misc Tools button
  • Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.
  • Click on the Save list... button and specify where you would like to save this file. When you press Save button a notepad will open with the contents of that file. Save the file to your desktop.

Please post this log on your next reply.

Hi New, Lets see if we can get the internet working first. A malicious .DLL file is disrupting the LSP chain on your computer and we need to get rid of it. You can download to a disk or a usb flash drive and then install on the infected computer.

  1. Please download LSPFix from here
  2. Disconnect from the internet and run the LSPFix.exe that you have just finished downloading.
  3. Check the I know what I'm doing box.
  4. In the Keep box you should see one or more instances of ntdll64.dll
  5. Select every instance of ntdll64.dll and move each one to the Remove box by clicking the >> button.
  6. When you are done click Finish>>.
  7. Reboot your computer to complete the process.

Next Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and save to your desktop.

  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to:

    Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform Full scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please copy and paste the log back into your next reply

    Note:
  • The log can also be found here:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\mbam-log-date (time).txt
  • Or via the Logs tab when Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware is started.

Important Note: If MBAM will not run I would like you to re-name it. To do this :-
    1. Right click Start - Click Explore
    2. Navigate to: c:\program files\malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Right click on mbam.exe - click Rename
    3. Type into the name box: new.exe

NEXT Download and Run: RSIT

  • Download random's system information tool (RSIT) by random/random from here and save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT.
  • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
  • Once it has finished, two logs will open. Please post the contents of both log.txt (<<will be maximized) and info.txt (<<will be minimized)

Please reply with:-
  • MBAM log
  • RSIT logs ( info.txt and log.txt)

Hi New,

MRU P2P Policy
IMPORTANT I notice there are signs of one or more P2P (Peer to Peer) File Sharing Programs on your computer.

BitLord 1.1
LimeWire PRO 4.14.8
uTorrent

I'd like you to read the MRU policy for P2P Programs.
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and uninstall the programs listed above (in red).
Run a new HJT scan when finished and post the log back here.

Note: Even if you are using a "safe" P2P program, it is only the program that is safe. You will be sharing files from uncertified sources, and these are often infected. The bad guys use P2P filesharing as a major conduit to spread their wares.

P2P programs also open up access to the computer on which the program is installed. The computer's settings are more often than not changed in a manner that renders them insecure, and access to the computer is left open even when the program is not in use. Therefore, the system's security is compromised.

So be aware that it's not just what's downloaded with P2P programs that creates problems, just having the program installed is like leaving all the doors to your house unlocked.

Please read what is below carefully and let me know what you decide

IMPORTANT
One or more of the identified infections that you have is a backdoor trojan.

This allows hackers to remotely control your computer, steal critical system information and Download and Execute files

I would counsel you to disconnect this PC from the Internet immediately. If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it should contain any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable, and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to apprise them of your situation.

Though the Trojan has been identified and can be killed, because of its backdoor functionality, your PC is very likely compromised and there is no way to be sure your computer can ever again be trusted. Many experts in the security community believe that once infected with this type of Trojan, the best course of action would be to reformat and reinstall of the OS. Please read these for more information:

How Do I Handle Possible Identify Theft, Internet Fraud and CC Fraud?

When Should I Format, How Should I Reinstall

We can attempt to clean this machine but I can't guarantee that it will be secure afterwards. The system will be extremely unlikely to be returned to its pre-infection state.

Should you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

So, if i choose not to reformat, how will it affect my day-to-day internet activities?

IF all goes according to plan the computer will be completely usable for day to day activities BUT before you decide read a couple of quotes from our experts here.

Removing the actual infection part of a backdoor is no more difficult than removing any other infection, what's "special" about a backdoor is that it's given your attacker opportunity to have a "look round" your computer. During that time he/she can have made any number of modifications to your system, some of which may be in areas we don't usually scan. – GaryR

As a Consumer Security MVP I have had the opportunity to hear some of the finest security oriented professionals speak about, as well as demonstrate, exactly how some of these extremely malicious forms of malware operate. Because of this, I can honestly tell you that in my own opinion only a very foolhardy or ill-informed person would trust a system once it has been compromised in this manner. If one of these beasts invaded one of my computers, I would not for even a second entertain the notion of a clean up. Nope! I'd nuke and pave without a moment's hesitation. – Nonsuch

The general consensus of Teachers, Admin etc here at MRU, including myself is to reformat and reinstall when faced with backdoor and / or rootkit infections. The choice is still yours alone to make.

I hope this helps. :flower:
