this is what came on the scan.

Summary of your last scan:
5/9/2009 7:11:08 PM
Results: 25 viruses or spyware detected.
Suspicious items: 2 suspicious files detected, not sent.
Vulnerabilities: No vulnerabilities detected.

The Panda Active Scan report normally shows the details of what was detected. Did you save the report to your desktop as directed in the instructions?

I see that you have LogMeIn installed an running. Is that a program that you need to run everytime you boot your computer? Do you need that program at all?

I cant even remember why i had the programme in the first place but now I'm trying to uninstall it and i'm getting a message 'Another version of this product is already installed.Installation of this version cannot continue. To configure or to remove the existing version of this product, use add/remove on the control panel' And thats what I keep on doing and that message keeps on reappearing..

Hi,

Open Notepad, paste the following code box contents into the text.
Code: Select all
sc stop LMIMaint
sc config LMIMaint start= disabled
sc stop LogMeIn
sc config LogMeIn start= disabled

Use Notepad's File, Save As to save it to your desktop as File type All Files (not as text file or it won't work), and file name FixSvc.bat
Exit Notepad and double click on FixSvc.bat
A Command window will flash on and off.

REBOOT your machine. Sign in to your usual account.

===================

End processes (if present):

1. Press the CTRL+ALT+DEL keys simultaneously to open the Task Manager.
2. Find C:\Program Files\LogMeIn\x86\LogMeInSystray.exe and click on it.
3. Click End Process.
4. If it gives a warning than click yes.
5. Repeat steps 3 & 4 for each of the following processes: (if present)
* C:\Program Files\LogMeIn\x86\LMIGuardian.exe
* C:\Program Files\LogMeIn\x86\RaMaint.exe
* C:\Program Files\LogMeIn\x86\LogMeIn.exe
* C:\Program Files\LogMeIn\x86\LMIGuardian.exe
6. Close the Task Manager.

===================

Remove Program
Please Click Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs
Remove this program by clicking Remove

LogMeIn

===================

Please post a fresh HijackThis log and a description of how your computer is behaving. Let me know if you were able to uninstall LogMeIn.

Re: PC going very slow again HELP !!

Unread postby Carolyn » May 14th, 2009, 12:42 pm

Hi,

I am very pleased that your computer is behaving better. That's great news.

If you have the patience to do so, I would like for you to run one more online scan to make certain that your computer is clean.

Please go to Eset website to perform an online scan. Please use Internet Explorer as it uses ActiveX.

  1. Check (tick) this box: YES, I accept the Terms of Use.
  2. Click on the Start button next to it.
  3. When prompted to run ActiveX. click Yes.
  4. You will be asked to install an ActiveX. Click Install.
  5. Once installed, the scanner will be initialized.
  6. After the scanner is initialized, click Start.
  7. Uncheck (untick) Remove found threats box.
  8. Check (tick) Scan unwanted applications.
  9. Click on Scan.
  10. It will start scanning. Please be patient.
  11. Once the scan is done, you will find a log in C:\Program Files\esetonlinescanner\log.txt. Please post this log in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log.

Re: PC going very slow again HELP !!

Unread postby Carolyn » May 15th, 2009, 2:25 pm

Hi,

I see no indications of any type of infection in your logs. Your computer is clean.

As the slow down problems you have are not related to malware, see below forums for general troubleshooting of computers, and post there for help.

http://forums.whatthetech.com/forums.html
http://www.techguy.org/
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/

This is my general post for when your logs show no signs of malware ;)-

    CleanUp! with OTListIt2
    • Double click OTListIt2.exe to launch the programme.
    • Click on the CleanUp! button.
    • OTMoveIt will download a list from the Internet, if your firewall or other defensive programmes alerts you, allow it access.
    • Select Yes when the "Begin cleanup Process?" prompt appears.
    • If you are prompted to Reboot during the cleanup, select Yes.
    • When finished exit out of OTListIt2
    • The tool will delete itself once it finishes, if not delete it by yourself.

    Protection Programs
    Don't forget to re-enable any protection programs we disabled during your fix.

    General Security and Computer Health
    Below are some steps to follow in order to dramatically lower the chances of reinfection. You may have already implemented some of the steps below, however you should follow any steps that you have not already implemented.

    • Clear Infected System Restore Points
      • Turn System Restore off
      • On the Desktop, right click on the My Computer icon.
      • Click Properties.
      • Click the System Restore tab.
      • Check Turn off System Restore.
      • Click Apply, and then click OK.
        Restart your computer

      • Turn System Restore on
      • On the Desktop, right click on the My Computer icon.
      • Click Properties.
      • Click the System Restore tab.
      • Uncheck *Turn off System Restore*.
      • Click Apply, and then click OK.
      Note: only do this once,and not on a regular basis

    • Set correct settings for files
      • Click Start > My Computer > Tools menu (at top of page) > Folder Options > View tab.
      • Under Hidden files and folders if necessary select Do not show hidden files and folders.
      • If unchecked please check Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)
      • If necessary check Display content of system folders
      • If necessary Uncheck Hide file extensions for known file types.
      • Click OK

    • Make sure that you keep your antivirus updated
      New viruses come out every minute, so it is essential that you have the latest signatures for your antivirus program to provide you with the best possible protection from malicious software.
      Note: You should only have one antivirus installed at a time. Having more than one antivirus program installed at once is likely to cause conflicts and may well decrease your overall protection as well as impairing the performance of your PC.

    • Security Updates for Windows, Internet Explorer & Microsoft Office
      Whenever a security problem in its software is found, Microsoft will usually create a patch so that after the patch is installed, attackers can't use the vulnerability to install malicious software on your PC. Keeping up with these patches will help to prevent malicious software being installed on your PC. Ensure you are registered for Windows updates via Start > right-click on My Computer > Properties > Automatic Updates tab or visit the Microsoft Update site on a regular basis.
      Note: The update process uses ActiveX, so you will need to use internet explorer for it and allow the ActiveX control to install.

    • Update Non-Microsoft Programs
      Microsoft isn't the only company whose products can contain security vulnerabilities. To check whether other programs running on your PC are in need of an update, you can use the Secunia Software Inspector - I suggest that you run it at least once a month.

    • Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:
      • From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
      • Click once on the Security tab
      • Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
      • Click once on the Custom Level button.
      • Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt
      • Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable
      • Change the Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable
      • Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt
      • Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt
      • Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt
      • When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.
      • If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.
      • Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.

      • Use an AntiVirus Software - It is very important that your computer has an anti-virus software running on your machine. This alone can save you a lot of trouble with malware in the future.
        Recommended Programs

        I would recommend the download and installation of some or all of the following programs (if not already present), and the updating of them on a regular basis.

        • WinPatrol
          As a robust security monitor, WinPatrol will alert you to hijackings, malware attacks and critical changes made to your computer without your permission. WinPatrol takes snapshot of your critical system resources and alerts you to any changes that may occur without your knowledge. For more information, please visit HERE.

        • SpywareBlaster
          SpywareBlaster sets killbits in the registry to prevent known malicious ActiveX controls from installing on your computer. If you don't know what ActiveX controls are, see HERE. You can download SpywareBlaster from HERE.

        • Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware or SuperAntiSpyware
          These are anti-malware applications that can thoroughly remove even the most advanced malware. They include a number of features, including a built in protection monitor that blocks malicious processes before they even start.
          You can download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from HERE. You can find a tutorial HERE.
          You can download SuperAntiSpyware from HERE.

        • Use an alternative Internet Browser
          Many of the exploits are directed to users of Internet Explorer. Try using a different browser instead:
          Firefox
          Opera

Finally I am trying to make one point very clear. It is absolutely essential to keep all of your security programs up to date.

Also please read this great article by Tony Klein So How Did I Get Infected In First Place

I'd be grateful if you could reply to this post so that I know you have read it and, if you've no other questions, the thread can be closed.
